    Cynthia Phaneuf "career announcement"

Cynthia Phaneuf will make an important "career announcement" in Montreal on Wedneday, Sep 26, according to a Skate Canada press release sent out today. Also present at the press conference will be Skate Canada president Benoît Lavoie.

This somehow smells of retirement to me, but maybe I'm wrong.

Is this normal procedure? I wonder if she's taking some position at SC.

say that she will be switching to synchronized skating and the press conference will be used to announce dates and times for when she will screen skaters for her new posse. Posse is the right term for team members on a synchronized skating team, right?

Is that like a dance "krew", Peter?

Best of luck to Cynthia, whatever she is announcing.

I love it when people announce that. . . they will make an announcement. It's such a tease.

She's been practicing lifting him in secret.

She'll undergo gender reassignment surgery and plan to compete in the men division as Clark Phaneuf.

Cynthia and her US equivalent, Alissa Czisny, have been hired to become the new Doublemint Twins?

Just wondering, does that leave her spot open on the National Team? Will they move someone up?

    From the Skate Canada website:
"To be named to the National Team a skater must finish in the top five at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships: in Senior Singles, Pair and Dance disciplines. Skaters may be added at the discretion of the International Committee."

Why make an announcement about making an announcement?

Sad if she has to retire due to injury and not on her own terms.
I will always remember how well she skated when she won her first Canadian title in 2004, her amazing grand prix debit the next year, and of course her awesome fifth place free skate at worlds on 2010.

    Possibilities:

    1. She is going to marry Patrick Chan.

    2. She is going to replace Speedy.

    3. She is not going to skate pairs with Rockne Brubaker but will skate pairs with Kevin Van Der Perren.

I hope the poor woman retires. This can't be fun for her.

Awww. I've always liked Cynthia. I'll be sad to see her retire.
