Learning another language does not require banning television in their native language; they could watch both. And you can't deny that Gwyneth's pretentiousness is well-documented and may very well be her motive.

That's not a bad idea though. What a great way for kids to learn a foreign language, outside of actually living in the foreign country. Easy way to get the foreign language requirement once they're in college.

That's not a bad idea though. What a great way for kids to learn a foreign language, outside of actually living in the foreign country. Easy way to get the foreign language requirement once they're in college.

I watched several years' worth of kiddie shows in French when I was growing up. Knowing how to count to 10 and sing nursery rhymes in another language isn't going to get you anywhere close to passing any college-level language class.

I do think I read somewhere that she has a nanny who speaks nothing but French to the kids? Yes? No? In that case, having them watch French TV would make sense. But why Spanish?
