I've actually been a fan of Zhao for years. She didn't come out of nowhere as much as it seems, she was just never really given any media hype. She was 7th at 2012 Novice Nationals, had an uncharacteristically bad skate (16th 3 falls) in the qualifying round of junior nationals 2011 in intermediate and didn't make the final round. She missed the final round of intermediate at junior nationals 2010 by one spot, and was 9th at 2009 junior nationals, where she was probably one of the most polished 10 year old skaters I've ever seen. As far as I know, she's won her level in regionals every year since.

Bell won southwestern regional jr ladies with 154.48. I like her. I hope she does well at sectionals and nationals

Most of the Upper Great Lakes free skate videos have been uploaded to icenetwork. Still waiting on the other 5 regions though.

I must say I'm quite disappointed at the number of regionals videos uploaded thus far.

FYI @icenetwork tweeted the other day:
Regional videos are on delay due to power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy at icenetwork.com offices. We hope it gets resolved soon

BTW, I'm currently working on compiling the 3 Sectional rosters with the help of others.

I just watched the intermediate ladies short from Southwestern Pacifics. The 2nd-6th placers were within a point and a half of each other. The group looked especially young, I want to say the average age was around 10. Not many double axels were tried, hopefully they'll be around for sectionals this week.

Elisabeth Christ, NE Intermediate FS final, fun and creative program! Love the Ina Bauer backbend into the funky turning lunge.

Did anyone else think that Tamia Ellison (Intermediate ladies, Southwestern Regionals) is wearing Lauren Dinh's intermediate long program dress from 2007/2008?

I've just watched Mariah Bell at Southwestern regionals. I thought her sp music a bit one dimensional, but the long program is very good, and she really catches your attnetion. Her jumps are still on the small side (but better than last year); her basic skating and her presentation are all there, however; if she can get her jumps bigger, I think she can turn a lot of heads next year at JGP.

ETA: Ashley Cain. I love the way she glides across the ice, and her edge jumps are so good too. If she can get a consistent flip or lutz she can do some damage at senior intls.
