Berdych drew Monfils in the first round, which has to be one of the most unfortunate first-round draws in recent memory.

Of the top seeds Federer seems to have the a favorable path to the quarters.

^^ Ha, ha ... "a little (blue) bird" told him it's "the place to be."

Roger should feel proud of already being in a very good place in his life and career.

Watching NBC's coverage now, Sharapova's new grunt is really ridiculous. She doesn't make any sound until the ball over the net. Surely this has to be hindrance?

Monfils pulls out the 5-set win over Berdych!

Awesome match - I must admit when it got to the 5th set I thought Monfils might fade but he hung tough and deserved to win!! He was so focused in his last service game - good for him!!

I am loving the ITV coverage of the FO here in the UK - they have Fabrice Santoro doing commentary on some matches - especially the ones with French players and I just love listening to his voice

Betthany Matek-Sands upset Li Na. Easy 2 set lead for Novak so far.

And belated congrats to Monica Puig for making the third round yesterday - nice to see Puerto Rico represented!

Did Maria Sharapova always shriek after the ball leaves her racquet or is this a new tactic?

She used to shriek before and after, one long caterwaul. Now she seems to be doing a shorter shreik after she makes contact. I don't know if this is new for this tournament or if it's something she adopted earlier this season.

Whoa about BM-S vs. LN! I watched the first part of that match but stopped when Li Na was up 3-0.

Robredo / Monfils match was great! So happy for Robredo, one of my old favorites. It's nice to see him playing so well again.

And Milos Raonic lost to Kevin Anderson. It's evil but I was secretly kind of glad, mostly because I get sick of hearing him talked up as the "next great one" or whatever.

Sets in the City - Tennis 2012 III

If they told Sharapova that she would lose the point every time she shrieked then she would quit shrieking within one half of one match, I guarantee it. Make the rule, WTA, enough is enough.

Martina Navratilova said as much. Azarenka is even worse. I can't watch her matches.

I really think the way Federer is playing here he will shock everyone and beat Nadal in the final to win his 2nd French.
