Azarenka has clinched year-end No. 1.

It's S. Williams v. Radwanska and Sharapova v. Azarenka in the WTA Championship semifinals.

And surprise, surprise. Wozniacki splits from coach to officially have dad as coach again.

The way Federer is serving, I expect Murray to clobber him tomorrow/today. Not sure about Djokovic vs. Del Potro. Although Djokovic has to be considered the favorite, Del Potro has the weapons to bother anyone.

Late to the party, but thrilled for Serena's win at the Istanbul YEC (what a year for Serena!!!!) Venus' first title in a while in Luxembourg, Petrova's win in Sofia and looking forward to the Federer-Djokovic final in London!

    Davis Cup in Vancouver again!

I enjoyed it this past season, hope to go again and see Rafa, Ferrer and Milos (who did not compete the day I went).

Congrats to the Czech Republic! Had any other nations won Davis & Fed Cups in the same year (US would be my guess...?).

^They have, but the Czechs also won the Hopman Cup in January - great year for them. Apparently tennis is officially the number two most popular sport in CZE now; they are certainly rising fast.

I guess Davis cup, Hopman Cup, Fed Cup should be a first considering Hopman cup is a very new on the calendar as respect to the other two.

Hard to say if this would be hurtful or funny to Serena. I'm not sure how friendly the two are on tour. If good friends, I'd hope she meant this in an entertaining, light hearted way.

I bet the next time they meet in match play, Serena hands her double bagels.

Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Australian Open :

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/20859522

The reason for his withdrawal is a stomach virus, but you have to wonder also about his knee and whether he'll be the same player when he finally does return.
"I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricasie, or a ragoust." ~ 'A Modest Proposal' ~ Jonathan Swift

Oh sad. The AO is still over two weeks away, so he really must not be ready. Still, better to give the tournament a pass than to desperately try to come back because he doesn't want to miss another Grand Slam and set himself back another year. I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

I know this isn't current tennis events, but I was watching old matches on YT. I am officially a fan of Hana Mandlikova. When she made the USO final in 1980 at 18 she was talked up as the next superstar (this was before Martina pulled herself together and started to dominate). She had every shot in the book, and was so graceful. I'm glad she ended up with 4 grand slam titles, but really she should have been a superstar and won many more. Martina was known to have said that the one player she felt was a threat was Mandlikova, which was odd because everyone always thinks Martina/Chris. I also realized how much more I loved tennis back then, where there was more finesse and varied shotmaking versus now the total reliance on power. So anyway here's a shout out to Hana Mandlikova.
