    125th IOC Session - 2020 Olympics/Wrestling In or Out?/New President

The 125th IOC Session is happening this weekend with the host city for the 2020 Olympics being decided tomorrow. It's between Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo.

Wrestling will be vying with baseball/softball and squash to remain in the Olympic programme while a succesor to Jacque Rogge will also be selected in Buenos Aires.

The session will be covered live on http://www.olympic.org/

    Let the Games begin!

I don't think there's a chance in hell it will go to Turkey.

Ever since the Final 3 were announced, I was thinking that Tokyo would win it hands down ... until the tsunami happened. Japan has way more important things to deal with than the Olympics.

So I'm guessing Madrid will get it on a first round vote.

Madrid should be the last choice, I really don't think they can afford it. I hope IOC members for once use their brain...

    My pick:

    1) Tokyo
    2) Istanbul
    3) Madrid

The tsunami occurred in March 2011, about fourteen months before the IOC selected the Final Three candidates.

I think Baileycatts is referring to the Fukushima nuclear crisis...

If you're going to say that, no country should ever bid for an Olympics.

Japan will get it. It's only sensible choice out of those three.

So do I. As I said, it took place in March 2011, fourteen months before the IOC chose Tokyo as one of the Final Three. I am sure the IOC was well aware of the problems arising from Fukushima when it made the selection.

I think Japan will. I saw bits of the presentations from both Istanbul and Tokyo, and Istanbul's was woefully uninspiring in comparison. The last guy who talked (I think it was the mayor?) kept on repeating the same old spiels without addressing the major issues surrounding the bid. Tokyo, OTOH, was more rousing, sharper, and to the point.

Personally, I'd love if either Istanbul or Madrid got it. It's rare that I'll have been to two of the bidding cities (I've been to Istanbul and loved it, and I'll be touring Spain and Portugal in late October), and I think it'd be a lovely coincidence if Madrid gets it as our decision to visit in October was made unawares of the Olympic bid.

Madrid's presentation so far is a bit dull....

I want to give the IOC the benefit of the doubt but I am so weary of both them and FIFA. So I'll just wish the bidding cities good luck and say there seems to be no great choice here. Istanbul could provoke more protests, Madrid and Spain is broke and Tokyo is a short distance away from Fukushima. But if I had to pick one it would be Tokyo.

"Madrid Makes Sense" must be one of the least inspiring slogans I've ever heard.

Not a very impressive presentation from Madrid...they're obviously banking on their charm offensive. I hear no concrete responses to the hard-hitting issues unlike what we heard with Japan.

Hopefully we will soon find out who has won the auction...ahem.... I mean the bidding process.

It's all down to Madrid and Istanbul.
