Why did so many other coaches have students debut with level 3 step sequences? I hope it is not a mistake and was planned for level 2 the whole time.

I sure hope so. I really hope that Bobrova and Soloviev, having better skating ability IMO than Monko and Khaliavin and Zlobina and Sitnikov, will have cleaner edges in their footwork and get their levels. I have no expectations for them to reach the Grand Prix final but I think that, if they can beat Ilinykh and Katsalapov at Russian Nats and Euros, they'll be primed for a top 5 worlds showing which will serve them well for the Olympic season and beyond.

It's possible though that they obtain their deep edges because they lean so far onto the blade, and that correcting posture, which Zhulin is doing, might take away that advantage in terms of edges.

Well, is there anyone who wants to take a crack at what the judges would have given them for http://youtu.be/0hStLXS3GyA?t=2m20s
Because I don't have the eye for calling levels. I think that they are going for a level 4 because they have all the bullets potentially

They have at least one double twizzle along with four other difficult turns, they have a one foot section with 4 difficult one foot turns, their sequence looks to be more than 75% difficult turns and I don't see why they wouldn't be trying to get every turn with a good edge and clean. I think that it's the last one that really messes people up, but I don't see a reason for any top team to get a level 2 when going for a level 4 because that would mean that the coach gave them a bad set of steps to do and didn't read the rules.

Anyway, I didn't notice any distinct shallowing of edges since they moved to Zhulin.

but aren't most Russians ice dancers slow on Twizzles ?

with excpetion to Ilinkyh/Katsalapov though their twizzles look unzynchronized and chaotic. Only Stepanova/Bukin I can really say they can wow with their spins and their super fast twizzles

Maybe compared to Davis and White, none of the Russians have fast twizzles, but I'd say that in terms of rotational speed, Bobrova and Soloviev are probably around the same speed as Tessa and Scott. And with Kustarova, they were even faster but were never in sync. Even Davis and White have small synchro issues with their lightning speed twizzles.
Anyway, Elena and Nikita have above average speed twizzles (in comparison with the top tier of ice dancers) but they suffer from unison issues as well.

Monko and Khaliavin's SD from Nebelhorn

Confused as to why they only got level 2. I know she had the twizzle issue, but I still counted enough difficult turns on one foot as well as total difficult steps. Maybe their edges were so bad that they didn't get credited with getting certain steps?

A thought that I had was that maybe the judges didn't think there was more than 75% difficult steps so they took off a level?

I think Ksenia had a couple of edge issues after her mistake but maybe I was concentrating too much on her edges?

They looked a bit tense to me,but it's understandable. It's ages since they've competed...

Btw,B/S got level 2 at Russian cup for their non touch sequence.I'm sure they'll fix whatever is missing. That's why it is good to check your levels early in the season

Uh Oh... if Bobrova and Soloviev don't get a level 3 in Finlandia, I'll be worried. Because they'll want to get all level 3 on steps at the very least to stay competitive with Weaver and Poje at Skate America.
Anyway, where did you get the Russian Cup protocols?

    http://fsrussia.ru/lib/74_kubok-ross...2013-1-j-etap/

This is the link with the protocols

    http://fsrussia.ru/upl/results/1213/...apfinaldoc.pdf

B/S are around page 22..It's all in cyrillic.

They were tentative at the SD so I'd probably put it on the lack of runthroughs?not competitive form at that point..

    Thanks
Looking at those protocols, I'm happy that they got level 3 and 4 on their YP - although I'll buy it if they get those levels at Finlandia or a GP event. Already much better levels than they got at worlds where they had level 2 and 3 on the Rhumba and level 2 on steps and level 3 on twizzles

The 16-year hope of our national team Adelina Sotnikova told "Russian Newspaper" how she prepares for a debut on Senior international championships

Skater Adelina Sotnikov who turned 16 years old this summer, reached Senior age (as for figure skating rules) and in this season for the first time can take place in the Euro and the Worlds.

In this season Adelina already showed more Senior skating and told to the correspondent of "RG" about the expectations from a new stage in career.

Adelina when to you was 13, you called "child prodigy" because you executed the most difficult combos. Now a jump arsenal didn't lose?

Adelina Sotnikova: On trainings I still everything do all well: combos 3Lz+3T and 3Lz+3Lo. A question in doing them as it is pure on test skating and at competitions. Probably, it is necessary to roll more the program to feel both music, and triple jumps. But the main thing after all - psychological preparation. After all in respect of physics on trainings everything is ideal. Here and during the last, fourth hire in the ice palace "Moskvich" it tried to be adjusted: hundreds times scrolled elements in the head, counted on the best...

But you fell from 3F. Even scolding from the adviser of the national team and the of choreographer Tatyana Tarasova received. Wasn't upset?

Adelina Sotnikova: I was dissatisfied that didn't execute a jump. And in general, I think, Tatyana Anatolyevna found to me a right approach. She was right, when told that I not fully concentrated on ice. Perhaps I was tired after several days of demonstration skating. But it is in any case better to commit now these mistakes, than then at competitions.

Over jumps you work, and over image and style? Your programs became more "senior"?

Adelina Sotnikova: For me more "senior" driving means more womanly. I feel that grew to such image that is ready on more serious emotions. So I like to skatel my new programs. Short it is put on Rimsky-Korsakov's music "The Spanish capriccio" plus a tango on step sequences. Free skating is the blues mixed with a soundtrack to the film "Burlesque".

How there passed work on these compositions?

Adelina Sotnikova: We were in training camp in mountains and there skateng new programs. In two weeks after return from training camp went to Japan. Mao Asada invited me to her show. There I made the last year's Bolero program which is very much pleasant to my Japanese fans, and with variations on the subject of my present Free Skate program "Burlesque". Me and Mao became friends, when she came to CSKA to train at Tatyana Anatolyevna Tarasova. But it was shock for me when she invited me. Unforgettable impressions - from skating, from public, from other figure skaters. It was smartly.

    And was Japan pleasant?

Adelina Sotnikova: We were in the cities of Osaka and Nicco. In the evening after skating show found time to resemble, vanish, despite a heat. It seemed, the temperature came nearer to plus 50. Perhaps I also exaggerate, but literally two minutes on the street - and you all in sweat. So on a skating rink there was our rescue. But at one excursion it was pleasant to me. The nature, castles - it is very beautiful, unforgettable. However, all told in English. I know language not so well and even was surprised that understood, of what it is a question.

You specially were engaged in English?

Adelina Sotnikova: Yes, went on courses, learned with the teacher. But, unfortunately, for some time lessons should be suspended. the 10-11th class of school I will finish in a year. It is necessary to study mathematics seriously, Russian, biology. I want to pass examinations well and to arrive in Institute of Physical Culture (Institute where learn on coaches on different types of sports - AlexRus). I will become the coach.

What sports purposes you put? You won the championships of Russia three times. The first number of the national team is a reference point?

Adelina Sotnikova: The purpose - not place, but to skate purely as I did it in 2010. That season I won Senior national championship, and the Junior World Championship, and Final of the Junior Grand Prix. I was so self-assured that everything turned out. And that year relaxed and not with such spirit left on ice.

    Ahead special season?

Adelina Sotnikova: It will be certain something new. It is interesting to get to Euro, to the Worlds, to feel what is large Senior international competition. Though I already started at Events of the Grand Prix, possibility to get on the championships will be the first in my career.

I love VT's LP, but they look exhausted at the end.
Can't Russian girls wear black dress?! Bring them light color!!!
Congratulations to Samarin! If he went Turkey, his scors would qualify him a silver medalist.

V/T will get stronger as the season progresses no doubt.
Adelina's performances from the Mao shows are on Youtube. Maturing as a performer, artist and young lady beautifully.
