I loved the huntsman costume as well but I like this one, too. Very ballet-like. Meryl looks wonderful, love the improvements with her costuming and hair!

i've said before that i would like meryl to do the double braided buns like how the giselle in ballets usually do. she would look super cute with it

I soooo agree. Just saw another photo of Charlie. The lace around the top has got to go. Seriously, it looks like he forgot to pack his shirt and borrowed one of Meryls.

But costuming aside, hope they have a great skate.

I'm not so sure about Charlie's new costume either. It looks less comfortable than the old one. The old costume looks like it would be easier to move in while this new one looks more restrictive around the arms. And what was so lovely about that first SD outing was how free and joyous it was.

I like Meryl's costume but I wish she'd change her hair as well. Her hair in the high bun looks too formal. Giselle is a peasant girl and should have a cute country hairstyle. I like the suggestions for braids or two buns on either side of her head. I actually didn't mind her hairstyle from Skate America- I thought it was a different look for her and very evocative of some of the Victorian hairstyles that were in vogue when Giselle first came out in the 1840s.

But having offered those small critiques- I'm so looking forward to see another outing of their gorgeous SD.

Maybe Meryl can keep the flowers and have two French braids, instead. I agree with Missy, that the top bun looks too formal and "waltzy". Maybe she can include side bangs. Charlie's costume is okay to me. Nothing really wrong with it, except he has a lot of neck showing..

It'll be interesting to see what costumes and hair both of them show up in. You never can tell from the practice photos what are the real costumes with the two of them!

It'll also be interesting to see tomorrow what the changes are to the FD costumes.

And we have the SA costumes. But still, every practice we assume they are wearing their competition costumes. And we're wrong at least half the time.

Same costumes as SA for both of them! But better flowers in Meryl's hair.

I really don't want to see that practice costume ever again.

Meryl and Charlie are very tricky in the costume department. This time I'm very glad to be fooled (on Charlie's part at least).

Yep, SA costumes, looked exactly the same to me, even Meryl's hair. The SD was lovely, definitely seemed seamless with very nice twizzles, a good YP with attack and speed. One point deduction and I'm sure it was for that lift at the end, wonder why that is still an issue for them? I could see an influence from Alex Wong in the waltz section, Meryl's positions in that one section looked more balletic. All in all it was a wonderful performance and the audience was fantastic! Standing ovation, lots of loud cheers.

I'm glad they stuck with the SA costuming and hair. I think it's the most organic and fitting for the mood they're trying to convey. I like Meryl's hair in this style. They just floated over the ice today- even better interpretation than SA. But there are still some technical things they are missing.

Love that Charlie is back to the old costume and Meryl's hair is very cute. The program is nearly perfect, I just wish they'd change that last lift - it looks like Meryl gets stuck a little in the change in position and it's the 2nd time they've gotten an extended lift deduction for it. There must be another lift that satisfies what they need but is cleaner and prettier.

It does worry me a little that both D/W and the Shibs got a Level 2 and Level 3 for their polka - and missed the same keypoints. Who's in charge of the YP at Canton?

I already did my gushing about the SD in the thread but the SD is brilliant. It really is one of the best (if not the best) of the field this year. Absolutely wonderful yet again. And I'm glad the original costumes stayed.

But yes, the low levels on the YP are a concern. Especially with the current situation in Canton.

Yeah but look at all the protocols. Only ONE team got a level 4 on any section of the YP and then the judges gave neg GOEs for the same element! It was also a lower ranked team just out of juniors I believe, Orford/Williams of Canada. I think the callers are having a hard time, I find it hard to believe that so many of the top skaters are not getting level 4s for the compulsory part.

And they need to fix that lift!! She still looks "stuck there" to me just like at SA. And Charlie did his final pose slightly off the music again. But it is such a lovely dance!

I really find the calling on the compulsory portions to be mystifying.

If you check the tech panel, it was Shae Zukiwsky, Canada, technical specialist, and Judy Blumberg, USA, assistant technical specialist, with Halina Gordon Poltorak as technical controller.
Zukiwsky & Blumberg were on the tech panel together at 4CC's last year. They are both very tough. It only takes 2 to make a call.

Gravy, Illinykh & Katsalapov got credit for no key points on one sequence. here

And Meryl & Charlie were really pushing the size of that pattern out, considerably more so than at SkAm.

I still haven't seen a good vid of it yet-the one on youtube is a tad grainy.

I'm so relieved that they kept the Hilarion costume!

And so thrilled at how spontaneous and wonderful the standing ovation from the Japanese audience was

I am disappointed Meryl's costume didn't change. She never seems to pick the costume I prefer, so I'm going to stop hoping now this year. I also wanted the ending lift to change and I would have even liked to see Charlie's new costume in action at least once. It was a lovely SD of course...it just felt exactly like SA, so I'm underwhelmed.

Possibly the new costumes were not comfortable when they tried them in practice...you may see them later in the season, with appropriate alterations.

I wish they would fix that final lift. Meryl's positions were better this outing, but it still gets stuck up there long enough to get a penalty.

They don't need a 3 changes of position, but they do need enough rotations

Level 4 description for rotational lift where there is no one armed part and where the entry isn't getting points for difficult or creative

    OPTION 1.b)
Lifted partner sustains a Difficult Pose through at least 5 rotations or moves through a Change of Pose

    AND

Lifting partner moves through at least 6 rotations
