Adam Rippon to be coached by Rafael Arutyunyan in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

Press release is out today: http://www.usfsa.org/Story.asp?id=48423&type=media

I think this is a good move for him since Arutyunyan is known as a very good technical coach.

ETA that an article by Amy Rosewater, who reportedly spoke with Rippon today, should be up on IceNetwork at some point.

Coaching-wise, perhaps... now if Adam became as BADDD a GRRLLLL as Nicole was, then that would be utterly

I'm an uber and all that but at some point, you have to look at the common denominator. I really hope this works out for him but it doesn't look especially good.

He needs a consistent 3A and quad to be competitive in the tough US field. Orser and Sato tried, but they may not have been the best to teach him that. Who is Arutyunyan coaching these days?

Definitely Nathan Chen - maybe Adam can pick up 3A pointers from Nathan? Not sure who else.

Better so than to have such bad season he had.
Why he parted ways with Brian Orser? He was technically much better with him...

How many coaching changes is that now? Honestly, I'd spend all the time wasted by moving all the time, going to new coaches, getting comfortable with them, etc on thinking about what's really wrong and use that time to train than his coaching situation.

Just from Wikipedia: Yelena Sergeeva for many years; Morozov in 2007-8 or so; then to Orser (officially in early 2009); left Orser but stated that he would stay in Toronto with Ghislain Briand in April 2011; left for DSC and Yuka & Jason two months later; now this.

I believe Morozov was the most acrimonious split; I remember in a later interview, when asked to describe him with whatever came to mind, Rippon answered "old".

Wowww. . . . coaching-go-round. I have wished for ALL these coaching arrangements to work and so far he seems to be merely in a holding pattern. Improving in some areas but (most notably) regressing in others. Please, Rafael, do NOT let him get injured!!

I feel a little bad for him. He seems kind of desperate, especially to be changing coaches this close to the Grand Prix. It seems as if he's on a constant, frantic search to find a miracle coach who can magically give him the reliable big jumps.

I'm surprised that his next stop wasn't Kristy Krall, given that she is a jump specialist, you'd think that Adam would be all over that

I might have thought about Kristy Krall too, but I'm good with this, possibly fewer other students with Rafael than with Yuka/Jason?

This seems quite sudden in the sense that I recall reading some article on icenetwork during Champs Camp with quotes from Jason that talked about their GP plans.

What sort of coach is Rafael? Recall reading one of the main issues with Orser was over training philosophies. Orser wanted him to hit the gym, do more off ice to build endurance and Adam and his team disagreed. It's interesting because in that icenetwork article from CHamps Camp Adam mentions how Siebert told him to hit the gym which he seemed to finally see the benefits to.

If you don't have a 3A in juniors, it's probably not going to happen in seniors. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm betting I'm not. There aren't going to be many more "next seasons" for Adam to get it together. I fear the same will be the case for Kozuka.
Your program sucks and your partner just fell: lay down and play dead or think Feck this and do a Th3A at the end of the program: Aliona Savchenko: Definition of a competitor
