Patrick Uber Thread - road to Sochi

Not sure if this is too late, but we might want to change the venue for our coffee tomorrow at 3 - there is a Red Roaster across from the arena on King St that is totally empty, as everyone else is using the one at the market. Would be better for seating. Let me know what everyone thinks.

Thanks for your reports of Patrick's first practice, luckiest and clarie.

I've heard that Patrick looked very strong earlier today, running through his long program almost flawlessly. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him to have a great start in the SP tomorrow.

hi Luckiest one. I'm okay to change and PC fan has an ipad with her. Both of PAtrick's practices to day were great, though he two footed the quad in the short. Landed several others though. If you confirm tomorrow, I'll check with her. I don't know if Emdee is on line, but I have her seat number.

Looks like Associated Press didn't notice Patrick's two-foot landing on the quad in the short program.

Two-time defending world champion Patrick Chan was tossing quads off with more ease than some guys manage triples during Monday's practice, and the Canadian may as well have turned to the rest of the field and said "Top this," after opening his short program with a perfect quad toe loop-triple toe combination.

I could only watch Patrick's partial FS runthrough - by some miracle because I am not Canadian and the practice videos are geoblocked - and his current jump layout seems to be 4T/3T, 4T, 3Lz, 3A (still in the backhalf of the program, I think), 3Lo, 3F/1Lo/3Sal, 3Lz/2T, 2A. I also think I saw a new spin (back spin) which I didn't particularly like and the opening section of his choreographic step sequence seems to be changed a little.

Patrick's practice yesterday afternoon was very strong. A few misses on quads but many more landed, and his axle looks great! By far he and Javier look like the guys to beat at this comp. Patrick also seems very relaxed.

As long as we don't strand anyone I thjnk the change to the bigger Red Roaster on King is a good thing.

^^^The two footed quad Corianna was referring to, was from last night's short practice, not the perfection he delivered on Monday. The 3A's have been great and that makes this fan extremely happy.

Apparently, when Patrick went to Calgary, he not only saw his trainer, he also had sessions with Scott Davis, per PJ Kwong. I'm assuming to tweak his jumps because they look very strong overall. ITA with Luckiest1, Patrick appears relaxed and has a quiet confidence. He's smiling and attacking his jumps, for instance, the quad he missed last night was followed by several clean quad/triples.

VarBar, as you pointed out, Patrick did make a few changes to his spins and last step sequence, including a leap, which matches the music perfectly. The jump order has changed in the second half, to 3Lo,3F(1/2 LO) 3S, 3Lz /2T,2A. from 3LO, 3LZ/2T, 3F (1/2 LO) 3S, 2A. The 1/2 LO combination used be just before the final step sequence. I like most of the changes, especially the final step sequence.

Luckiest, I'm fine with the change to Red Roster on King.

It's snowing here and of course I did not bring boots.

Can anyone report on Patrick's sp tonight? I can't afford to renew my subscription this year as FSU doesn't take Amex, so I would LOVE a report. Thanks.

that was brilliant. Every jump clean, including the 4-3 and 3A. Huge difference between this performance and any of the SPs he's had in the season to date.

Still can't believe he landed that 3T after the 4T. So happy for him, but we all knew he was more than capable of doing this.

He was amazing, wow those edges. I'm just enthralled when I watch him skate. Hoping his long will be just as sublime.

I agree. It felt like a master class on edging. I love the footwork section in this program, the sound of the blade..mesmerizing
And awesome.

So true. And thank you PCFan, Miriam, luckiest1 and everyone else for reports and updates. You are all so lucky to have witnessed that gorgeous SP along with Denis Ten's brilliant skate.

WOW! Patrick Chan you friggin rocked tonight!

It was such a strange night with all the top guys making errors I was so nervous and Patrick just killed
it! I hope he does it again in the LP then the 'critics' can shut it because there is no way anyone can say he didn't earn it and deserve it tonight(if they do they're just bitter). The crowd was awesome, Patricks expression at the end was priceless what a great day of skating, loved it. Denis Ten was adorable and just so good and Kevin?! What can you say? Don't think anyone saw those two sitting where they are currently but all the best to them in the LP as well. Hanyu and Verner I felt heartbroken for but oddly enough they both took it remarkably well.
