I was thinking something like this was behind the no hugging or contact rule. Someone took it up a notch and someone's parents got upset about their child being disciplined or not being disciplined for it.
My brother got in trouble for making out in the stairwell and my father was not amused. Although his anger was directed at my bro, some parents might blame the school.
Some of these "regulations"; and the rationale for them, boggle the mind.
And for every stupid no contact overreaction, you have the under reaction by school officials:

Was the ISU in charge of the investigation and "punishment"?

I'm off to the Patrick Chan threads...where you can watch a molehill become a mountain in seconds!!!
I wish I could ban the phrase "boys will be boys" forever.
And also "we were only joking." Ya, right.

Exactly. My nephew told me this afternoon that his chemistry teacher got pissed off at a kid for talking over her in class (and I sympathize with her on that a little as I always told students that if they wanted to talk to each other during study time, I was going to tell them to be quiet but if they insisted on talking while I was addressing the class, then we'd have a real problem--it is just rude behavior). Instead of asking him to be quiet, however, she informed him that if he didn't quit it she was going to deck him. Yeah. Apparently, the whole class went silent in shock and then she tried to play at it being a joke. Nephew's words: "It was just off, though, not like a joke at all." I signed up to sub at his school and he suggested that perhaps she'll be suspended and I'll get a sub call. I told him I doubt a thing will happen.
