2012 Rose of Tralee - It's the Lovely Girl Olympics!

It's that time of year again and the show is broadcast as usual on Monday and Tuesday night on Irish TV.

    Here are this year's Roses.

Bring on the softshoe reels to the theme tune of "Dallas", bad poetry and singing!

I think the Texas rose is the prettiest but this girl http://roseoftralee.ie/roses/interna...ional-rose-242 is beautiful too. Waterford is in Ireland, right?

The New Orleans Rose is a Zumba instructor and dancer so I'm assuming she'll be dancing for our pleasure.

I've known about the festival for years after I went to Ireland on a family vacation and we went to Tralee and learned all about the Rose. The internet has made following things really easy.

The QVC shopping channel used to broadcast LIVE from the event every year.
That's how I learned about it.

How Irish do you have to be for this competition? I looked at the application form, and all it states is "One of your ancestors" need to be born in Ireland. How far back can you push it-an single ancestor in the fifteenth century? Or maybe it has to be a grandparent? Or do they really care?

I'm just wondering here- I wouldn't qualify anyway, having no Irish ancestry at all.

Denver seems to have a Finnish name (maybe an Irish mother?)
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

I don't think they care all that much how far back your ancestors goes. If my niece wanted to do this, she'd have to go back to around 1850 to find someone who lived in Ireland though She'd fit right in as our last name is very Irish.

new orleans rose just gave a sort of half hearted shimmy dance, not meant to be done or seen sober

Feirm Factor (feirm is the Irish for farm)

Watched the roses last night (and fast forwarded through the "talent" segments ) and they were a bit of a disappointing crop. Don't think we've seen the winner. Let's hope tonight is better
