That's what they said back in the 1980s about holding the summer games. it represents a poverty of ambition. You can do anything if you try. In fact, holding a winter games in the UK would leave just as much of a legacy as the London games as it would change the whole cultural attitude towards winter sports in this country.

Good points. In terms of the slopes, they are no different to those of Harbin in China which held the 3rd Asian Winter Games in 1996 and which has bid for the winter Olympics. As you say, Vancouver suffered from a lack of snow and that can always be made up for by artificial snow.
