Yes but aren't they riding a horse they've never been on before? That's part of the sport.

I wonder how someone decides to become a modern pentathlete. I understand the history of it (thanks google) but it just seems so....strange.

The live showjumping has now finished. The shooting/running starts at 6.45pm British Time (just under an hour)

Just showing scenes of Spanish race walker discarded a sponge from his shorts after he peed into it.

Err, the whole field stops for a comfort break?

How do riders go to the toilet?
Generally, they pull over to the side of the road, stop, and shed liquid ballast in the usual way. Some time in the first couple of hours of the race, a senior rider (a team leader or team captain) will organise a comfort break and the whole peloton will slow down enough that riders can stop for a break and easily catch up afterwards.

The etiquette is that you don't attack while a large-scale comfort break is in progress, and you certainly don't attack the yellow jersey when he's taking a leak.
On marathons and other endurance events they have portaloos by the side of the road although not everybody uses them. First time I've ever seen anyone do it in a sponge.

It's called a mobile toilet break, sometimes you're just not on the same schedule as everyone else or you've already relieved yourself before the comfort break. I don't think cyclists use sponges, though.

Canada just equaled it's best ever medal haul of 18 but only one gold. There still lots of medals to be handed out so hopefully we can get a couple more to add to th total.
