    As do I!
FYI, Nordstrom's began as a shoe store; why they have a such a variety of sizes/styles.

    And these: http://www.stuartweitzman.com/produc...pId=-1&F_All=Y

    But they're a little (actually a lot) too $$ and I don't need them

I cannot get past the heel slippage in new casual/walking boots and booties. Tried on about 20 pairs today and decided I am just a plain shoe woman (other than my hiking boots, of course). I realize that the heel slippage is supposed to go away as the boot is broken in, but I won't buy them if they are not comfortable from the get-go. Oh well, so be it.

I know! Showbiz is GORGEOUS! But too expensive and too limiting to wear. If and when it goes on sale, I'll consider it. I like it in the suede, not the fabric.

Do you have a J. Crew card? If you do, you get advance notice and access to sales. You don't have to use it and there is no annual charge. They do have a decent rewards program FWIW. I got one because I need tall for pants, and they don't have them in the stores. So, I have to buy online. Just went to site, they are currently running a 25% on "winter favorites" for women/men/kids. http://www.jcrew.com/index.jsp

The Gweneth Paltrow, Ralph Lauren dress, looks better in Marge. it fits her.

Every now and then I order something that is not my usual style. I was told by a good friend I was going to need a slinky cocktail dress. Cocktail dresses in DC are not slinky, they are respectable. So I didn't own one.

I found this http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/p...7c_33694653751 and ordered it with Nordstrom notes at Nordstrom (they must have sold out, not on the website anymore.) Mine has silver rather than gold studs and I thought it would probably be tacky.

Oh, no. With the right lingerie I look ten years younger and 100 percent sexier in that dress than anything I own. Yay for taking chances.

Ooh la la! Love it. I don't think I would last a month in DC.

You wouldn't. You'd be bored to death.

OTOH, the thing I thought I would love, the silk quilted jacket http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/parker-m...-001b2166becc: I can't decide if it's worth that rather elevated price -- when I've already been buying too much for myself and Xmas presents and plane fare. It's cute and the colors are lovely but am undecided. Will hang in my closet for a couple of days while I ponder.

Since you are into colorful prints and slinky dresses, check this out, PRLady: http://www.zappos.com/ted-baker-tabb...131212030006:s

I have one and am wearing exactly this outfit (have almost the same black platforms!) to our swanky holiday office party next week. This is my idea of dressing conservatively.

OMG that's a killer dress and you will look gorgeous in it. And if that's your idea of dressing conservatively.....let's just say I don't think I've ever seen anything like that at a DC party. But of course, I hang with the left-wing granola-eaters, not the diplomats or rich McLean Republicans. Who knows what they wear?

But the stuff you and cruising buy makes me suffer location-envy. I used to have a sparkly t-shirt I only wore in Margate, NJ. I am potentially quite peacock-y.

(Since I will be spending some of my leisure time in Toronto, another cold and conservative city, I don't think my style is going to change much.)
