That's unfortunate. Was wondering how her injury recovery was going since I hadn't heard anything about her in a while. Hope she gets better soon!

ETA, the situation with Gabby and Chow seems a little odd. Giving them notice on a Monday and leaving on Tuesday? Hope she's making the right decision. Wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't compete again anyway.

I have a feeling that Gabby is maybe a bit lost and her family is making decisions for her, I really wanted to see her do high level gymnastics again but things don't look too promising. I think she's probably done, Chow would be the coach she stuck with if she were still very serious about gymnastics and not fame IMO.

Apparently Afanasyeva is injured and having "an operation" tomorrow. I've read it on a few boards but that is literally all I know.

If Afan is out of worlds (along with Komova) I don't even know if I'll watch

    All the best Ksenia!

Based on her condition the Olympic season did people expect to ever see Komova compete again?

If it is true that a freak case of viral meningitis is what is keeping Komova out, then I think she could have just as easily been at Worlds. I think we will see her again but I don't know if we will ever see her as an AA threat again. Who knows, though.

Iordache skipped the upcoming GP since she was doing physical therapy. No idea for what, but with Worlds over a month away, I wouldn't count her out just yet.

Since Komova had been out most of the year with an injury before the meningitis, I didn't expect her at Worlds this year. With all her injuries and now illness, I won't be surprised if she never comes back.

If Afan is out, I wonder if Pavlova may make the team. She could do beam and vault, two events Afan would have been competing on. Paseka is another option but she is pretty much only useful on vault. Russia loves to screw over Pavlova, though, so I wont hold my breath.

What Tesla said. All of this is just in addition to what was already a half Komova in London.

Paseka got the bronze at Euros on Bars this year. I don't think she'd make bar finals, but she could conceivably do bars.

Afan is having leg surgery. No word on the problem itself, the cause or her worlds chances

I completely agree. Even before then, Komova always seemed extremely frail, both physically and emotionally, and she never seemed to have the stamina to make it all the way through a full competition. She would typically ace the qualifying round, then lose momentum until there was nothing left by the time of event finals. If she does compete again, I would think she would have to do a more limited bars/beam role.

Simple surgery for Afan, less than a week recovery time.
