    Giulia Steingruber - SUI
    tour jete 1/1
Layout full in - wow!! Beautiful!
double layout 2nd pass, she rocks! OOB
    straddle leap 1/1
    switch leap, switch side 1/1
double tuck OOB again (could easily twist that)
    finally some choreography
    double pike - perfect!

Wow the tumbling is very impressive, maybe the best in the world. It's definitely the best layout full-in since Bontas in 91 Indy. I wish sleeveless leos would be banned forever, kills the line and cheapens the look of every routine IMO. 14.1 and into 2nd, could be a force at Worlds!

And Grishina almost flies out of the arena on the landing of her whip triple full. Other than that she just about held herself together. I have to say though that what the Russians are trying to pass off as choreo into the corner is disgraceful when you watch the Romanian's who literally don't stop moving. Are they really that unfit that they need all those breathers? Steingruber & Carmen = but good tumbling with full in double layout.

    Diana Bulimar - ROM

    double layout - perfect.
1 1/2 through to a double back - perfect again!
    tour jete 1/1
    switch leap, switch 1/2
piked full in (low chest small hop)
    This is impressive so far
    switch side 1/1
    double pike - small hop

Very charming and cute, this will easily lead. The double layout opening was esp clean, really sold it too. I prefer her lines and extension to Iordache. 14.533 and into first

    Ksenia Afanasyeva - RUS

double layout - step (she should add a punch front here at this point!)
whip whip triple twist - nailed the landing
double attitude turn - reverse full turn - beauty
switch ring - tour jete 1/1 - shes on
2 1/2 - front layout - huge improvement from prelims!
    double turn L - 1 1/2 Memmel turn - nice
This routine is so far ahead of the rest of the world
    double pike - step

That was the best routine she's done since she won the World Championships, so happy to see that performance from her! Difficulty will be a 6.4 and her execution was good, expect a big score wheeee! 15.166 and into first by a mile

    Roxana Popa Nedelcu - ESP

fell out of triple turn - 2 1/2 instead
tucked full in - hop back
    whip-whip double tuck
    switch ring- switch half
    Memmel - wow beautiful
Gemma Paz voids with this music
    whip 2 1/2 - punch front (1997 voids)
    double pike - step back

Overall not bad but this will probably not beat anybody except for Sankova.13.9 and into 5th

    Larisa Iordache - ROM

tucked double double - bounced forward probably .3-.5
tucked full in - small hop
    switch 1 1/2
switch leap into switch side 1/1
    Nice expression
triple twist - small step not as clean as before either
quad turn - wow the romanians make this look so easy
    switch 1/1
double tuck - big hop back

Overall it was solid other than the opening first pass, but based on tonight I'd have her in 3rd behind Bulimar. 14.733

Really happy for Ksenia I was so sure she'd tank the double pike just because she nearly always does but that was fab to watch. Iordache really overcooked it and looked sloppy in comparison.

    Carlotta Ferlito - ITA

    switch full
triple twist - bent legs but stuck
double tuck - low chest and hop
ring leap - switch ring - lacked amplitude
switch ring 1/1 - not bad
This music is too upbeat for her
    Lovely toe point
Memmel turn - so sick of these but hers was nice
    double pike - small hop

Overall solid, I'd say probably 4th or 5th. Some of the cleanest in-between's for sure, just not the difficulty to really contend. 14.216

    Gold: Afanasyeva
    Silver: Iordache
    Bronze: Bulimar

That was an enjoyable final, Worlds this year is looking quite promising!

Shalitov (6 ft, giant for a gymnast) looks like a giant and then you look at Moznik who is even bigger

Your comments were somewhat premature. These were a great championships, especially given that it was the first of the quad and the gymnasts were working with a new code. Fabulous performances, good scores, great podiums.

Highlights for me were Musty's Golds in the AA and UB, and the performances of the British men. Low point was the injury to Gabby Jupp. Hope she gets well soon.

The UKR men have a great future, even without Kuksenkov. I like Belyavskiy but I think Vernyayev has more room for improvement at this stage. Along with the Brits, Europeans is finally becoming exciting again, at least for the men.

Yes I'm so happy the Ukrainian guys have overcome the Olympic disappointment. They deserve to do well, especially since they're training in abysmal conditions with only a fraction of the equipment everyone else is using.

And the Brits have an absolutely endless stream of very strong juniors coming up. There were plenty of under 16s making the all-age finals at the recent British Championships (they have a special "masters" event in place of event finals with the top scorers from all categories competing against each other for the men). It was great to see very young teenagers pushing Olympians all the way. I don't think the British program is in danger of going south in the next few years.

Both Oleg Stepko and Oleg Vernyayev are young, and both have good room for improvement. However, they are trying difficulty that is too much for them at this stage... As for Kuksenkov, I think he could won this title, hopefully he will be able to win some medal at teh world championships, possible team, AA, and on PB.

Emin Garibov won the men's HB gold today. Congratulations to him, and I found an interview with him on YouTube. Could some translate for me? Please and thanks.

I love Afanasyeva. She's right up there with Bogi and Podkopayeva in terms of my fave floor exercise performers.
