Kanaeva made history here, so she should be flagbearer
Russian Judo athlete won 3 gold medals and made history by defeating Japan. May be they should make one of the Judo athletes do the flag bearer.

and Aliya made history by becoming first AG gold for Russia since Khorkina
P.S . Kanaeva will be an excellent choice, but the flagbearer will depend not just on this result but on others as well.

My vote for Russian flag bearer goes to the wrestler who survived poisoning to be here. Bilyal Markova is his name I believe and I am so fascinated by his story.

So Russia has won 11 gym medals total in these games. Congrats to them and to the Korean girl for putting up such a fight. Hope she wins a medal in Rio.

Why is that? Politiks? Because I much preferred the Chinese and Belarus 2 girls to the Polish girl in qual. I don't know how the elements are scored, but the Polish doesn't do very difficult turns or intricate movements/risky catches with the apparatus, and her lines are not all that either.

Really liked the Ukrainians too. And Liubov. And Russians of course.

It should be online on nbcolympics.com soon, but I don't think NBC has aired any of the finals yet (have the soccer game on Telemundo atm).

So who of Dmitrieva or a recovered Merkulova/Kondakova will end up taking over from Kanaeva? Hmm.

Rizatdinova's ball was probably my fave overall routine. Politics are against her of course but I'm looking forward to seeing more.

A couple of years ago FIG decided to remove rope from rhythmic permanently - I remember reading it wasn't tv friendly or something ridiculous - I can't find a link, but there is a facebook page trying to keep rope in the sport:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lets-k...35841273122266

ETA sorry I don't have the original link but this was reportedly posted on rsg.net

TC members after consultation with specialists and coaches from different countries proposed to eliminate rope apparatus for the programme of senior individual due to women change of body having leaps as fundamental group of apparatus. It causes a lot of micro-traumatism and injuries. Media (TV) do not transmit qualifications/finals for rope apparatus in any competition, especially
world cups, world championships and Olympic Games as it's an apparatus that is not visible in the air.

Yeah, this is exactly what I've read, but I couldn't find any info on rsg.net on how it stands today...

NBC showing it NOW. They showed a little earlier as well. NBC slightly wuz-robbing Dmitrieva earlier.

ETA: Viner clearly got to commentators. Now, Kanaeva clearly the best.

do they REALLY need that buzzer near the end of each routine to remind them that time is almost up? isn't each routine timed to music anyway?
