I didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I would start one. Here is the startlist/schedule. The qualification round starts 7 AM EST today (Thursday).
Anyone else watching?
Go Miteva and Maksymenko!

Won't be watching it live but will be watching. Also last time they were using rope and not clubs so that will be new for me.
Wish I could but it'll be on way too early for me, 5am I believe, I will definitely catch the finals live though![]()
I'm so gonna watch ......
but like many I only really pay attention once every four years ....
i still remember to this day how Anna Bessonova (the QUEEN of rhythmic gymnastics) performed the ribbon routine of her life to knock Kapranova off the podium in the last rotation four years ago and the huge roar from the stadium and the tears - it was dramatik to the extreme! (Kapranova had absolutely AWFUL routines, especially the Swan Lake routine to clubs - she fell, and dropped the clubs like there was no tomorrow) It was the highlight of the Beijing olympics for me!
I know that the defending Olympic champ is competing today. can anyone tell me who else should I be watching out for and why?! (to help out a casual fan like myself)
Wheeee!!!!
IF one, or both, russians end off the podium I will not be sad. But we all know that this won't happen.
Kanaeva is just the blandest thing to me...
I'd kill to see Miteva, Staniouta, Charkashina (sp?), Maximenko earn some medals.
PML! I've watched this for less than 10 minutes and I've already heard O Mio Babbino Caro, Ladies in Lavender and Nutcracker.![]()
Rockin' Finnish commentator: "And that was supposed to be a flip but it turned out to be a flop."
I can't believe a Korean girl is in first place, though I don't know if it does anything so early in the competition. lol
BTW, I find it interesting that at least half of these girls are uber flexible just like Julia Lipnitskaya.
Just when you thought FS and artistic gymnastics judging was shady![]()
![]()
So far, it's been a splatfest, with half of the girls dropping their things.
It's also interesting how this sport is dominated by Europeans.
They are giving free spots to other continents like Africa, America, and Oceanea just to have them be represented here.
^^^ Exactly, anyone who thinks fs is not a real sport can just p*** off after this Olys. And it's not just rsg, I can't even count how many questionable calls I've seen in any sport that has a judge/referee.
Don't you find it worrying that doctors call treating you their "practice" ?
Now watch Mitrosz perform a pre junior level routine and place top 10![]()
Tall Polish girl is mediocre, but has the best smile by far.
Can't get over how musical Melitina Staniouta is
And the use of vocalisation on musics is just too overdone in RG....
Don't follow the sport at all, but wanted to give a bug cheer to the Austrian girl. She seems to be the one to carry on the legacy of OES into rhythmics. No teknik but voidy as hell.![]()
Charkashkyna's orange legs is all shades of wrong...
Lovely ball performance though
