I disagree, I don't think the commentators were being complementary. I also really hated her arm movements. They seemed random, not connected to the flow of the routine. They were distracting.

So is the silence of beam final difficult? It seems like gymnasts are used to noise.

Komova must be beyond a perfectionist. She just can't deal with mistakes.

I read on another board that Mustafina plans to continue after the Olympics (yay!) but Komova wants to take a long break, think about it, and is unsure whether she wants to continue in the sport.

Sorry, but Ponor was overscored. I don't see how hers was a 15.066. Aly was obviously better to me but even if she wasn't, Ponor would still have been over scored.

I like the flag costume in design, but it's not flattering on Raisman.

I've decided that Raisman is so the Lysacek of gymnastics. Not the best in any one element, but works hard, goes for it, and fantastic in pressure cooker situations.

After seeing this, I'd have been happy with either Ponor or Raisman. No major bobbles and no grace v. a few bobbles and grace.

You can only protest the difficulty score.

I want Marta and Bela away from team USA as much as anyone but I am so glad they were looking out for Aly here.

I'm in California, so on Pacific time. Is there any place to find out exactly when gymnastics is on tonight (other than 8-midnight), so I can skip the other sports and just watch the beam and floor events?

Daddy Raisman is adorable when he's stressing.

Ponor is ready to cut someone with her cheekbones.

Al is just , he's got the vapors.

Just like in figure skating, I can't help but wonder if she's the type that doesn't practice full run-throughs (even when she makes mistakes) or if she stops at the first error and then starts over.

I have a feeling it's the latter -- doing full run-throughs would help her to fight through errors and not bail on a routine as soon as something goes wrong.

    *******

Re: Aly's score -- in what universe did the judges think that wasn't better than Catalina Ponor's performance? The US was absolutely correct in filing an inquiry regarding her score.

Aw, Aly was so cute when she saw she won. She thought she'd be fourth.

Right? I never thought I'd be glad to have that man anywhere near this team.

I'm sorry it fell out this way for Ponor and I still think the tie break rules are the suck. But Aly was better.

I think one of my guy friends has just become a total Aly fan girl. He's in danger of showing up at meets with signs that say "Aly, will you marry me?" He's only 20 so this is a pretty age appropriate crush and I think I'll encourage it.

No, but if you "translate" the times that it was shown in EST, that'll tell you. Beam just ended at 10:10, so maybe it started around 9:15 or 9:30?
