I'm no teknik for the chaps, so these "observations" are ridiculous.
- They are tiny in person. It's weird; they're buff, but petite at the same time. It's
- Marcel is a BEAUT. And his dismount from PB's is fabulous![]()
- Zonderland isSo happy for him, great for the Dutchies
- Fabian isn't my favourite German gymnast, but I'm pleased he's made such a good comeback. Hopefully Philipp Boy can do the same (but I'm hearing he's contemplating retirement)
- Horton looks about 5'1. Zou Kai looks about 14 years old.
My sister and I had a big argument about it a couple of days ago. She thought the way Musty shoved off her coach after balance beam in AA was way disrespectful. I told her I was like Musty, I like to grieve alone.
Fck the once-in-four-year fans.
Mustafina is a GODDESSwith helicopter legs.

Seriously, she is my new fave. In person, she just has "IT". Girl is a star. Not even Komova captivates the way Aliya does. In fact, my jury is out on Vika. Her beam was a rather sad attempt today.
Is Mustafina better now than she was in 2010? I've heard suggestions she is.
Yay! Someone else had an argument with a sister about Musty! I don't feel so deranged!
I hate that my family is full of very opinionated and impassioned casual fans.
We're planning to go to Rio in 2016 and I already told everyone that I'm not sitting next to any one of them.![]()
Yes and no. Clearly her gymnastics isn't as easy as they once were and her twisting has actually gotten worse. But she still has that unique confidence that is severely lacking in most gymnasts. Ponor also has that confidence and Raisman as well and Douglas in AA and Team Final had that too.Is Mustafina better now than she was in 2010? I've heard suggestions she is.
Loves_Shizuka, thanks for sharing.
I'm so happy you were in the hall.
So, why didn't everybody get a tie breaker with Musty as a consolation prize?
I am in the K&C at the 1980 Olympics telling Frank Carroll he will have a male skater from KAZ with a 4T, 3A-3T and a World Silver going into the 2014 Olympics ...
I am currently involved in an argument with a friend of a friend on fb about Mustafina and her reaction after Gabby messed up and she knew she had that gold on UB. It kind of irratates me when people start calling all of these teen girls commies just because they're from Russia....
Has Mustafina said anything yet about whether she intends to continue? I hope she will.
^ I believe she wants to be in Rio![]()
Way to go Aly![]()

I'm really glad (?) to hear similar stories of arguments with more casual friends during this Olympics about Mustafina's supposed b!tchy attitude. This almost makes me like her more. I wonder if the Russians will get the diva narrative come Sochi, but I guess that's another discussion.
No complaints about the results. The Chinese ladies are too good to not win gold in something. And I'm happy for Aly so congrats to her. Mustafina is the true star of the Russin team. She must have inherited her dad's fighting spirit. LOL

The comments I've read about Mustafina and Komova have endeared both of them to me and make me want to defend them left-and-right.
I'll probably just have to stay off of FB during Sochi given that the 4-year-fans will be weighing in and none of my favs in any of the disciplines are from the US.
Absofeckinlutely! It even comes through the telly. And thank you so much for all of your on-site reports! I'm thrilled that you got to be there.
Gingercrush is right on the money. That ACL injury and lost training time has affected her confidence a bit, especially on beam (see AA), but she is such a fighter that despite all the time she had to take off from gymnastics, she was a multi medal winner here.
And yeah, I hate that people see an expression on TV and think they know exactly what the athlete is thinking and feeling.
I saw that smile and my immediate thought was that Aliya knew she had the gold at that point and was thrilled. It's not like she jumped for joy during Gabby's routine, she just gave a quiet smile to herself and her coach, and I frankly don't blame her. To win a gold after all she had gone through, and in no way was she disrespectful to Gabby's performance.
I hope Musty stays around for a looooong time.
The casual fans don't know her like we do(well not that we know her) but we have seen Aliya congratulate others for wins...And fight through all of those injuries..All of this takes away from the bratness. (I have no doubt this girl is a diva based on training reports) but she's earned it.
When I think of Aliya, I kind of think of the Katerina Witt of gymnastics. Maybe not the best gymnast but the most star quality and fight of them all.
I will apologize for referring to Musty blowing by her coach earlier in the competitions as a "pissy child." Watching her over the past several days has definitely made me a fan, and I can understand how at times she (and McKayla, for that matter) just need to get together on her/their own after a subpar performance. Komova frankly does little for me, and it was defined today by her "oh, I made an error, that's it, I give up" mindset. Aliya is truly something special. Very happy for Aly today, and happy that Aliya got a well-deserved gold on UB. Again, a great competition overall!![]()
