^ They just met him, and this is crazy. They're like, " ... and here's my number, so call me, maybe ..." As if before he came to their lives, they missed him so bad.

And now for a change of pace, Americans are criticizing Americans....specifically the US women's soccer team, who wore some rather un-humble T-shirts at their medal ceremony.

Yikes! I am surprised that Team USA even allowed this. I thought the US medal winners had to wear those grey jackets? Apparently there was a deal with Nike:

No one is blaming the women on the team. They were handed shirts and put them on, as expected. And I don’t blame Nike either: Every 13-year-old girl who’s ever picked up a soccer ball is begging for one right now. The people at fault are the go-betweens for Nike and Team USA. They should have realized the way those shirts could have been perceived.
    Creating drama!

IIRC Nike also made the `Silver is the First Loser¨ shirts that were being handed out at a past Olympics.

    We're "great" at that.

Unlike that blogger, I do blame Nike in addition to whoever chose and approved of the shirts. Nike should think about more than the bottom line. And even if they're only looking at the bottom line, they should not have associated their brand with something that is likely to turn a lot of people off -- including both Americans and non-Americans. Stupid. A lot of us would prefer those horrible grey team uniforms.

I did not. The comments about Levya are from the article. Here is the quote from McKay:

Need more proof? Gymnast Danell Leyva basically challenged Kohei Uchimura, arguably the greatest male gymnast ever, to a rematch in Rio — while the two were still on the podium.

The Olympic gold medal had been draped over Kohei Uchimura's neck for all of a minute when Danell Leyva leaned over and asked the man who is arguably the greatest male gymnast of all-time if he planned on being in Rio de Janeiro in four years.

"I told him 'you better,"' Leyva said.

However it was intended, if anyone did that to an American, they'd be crucified for spoiling the podium moment.
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

Mark my words--once he is too old for competitive swimming they will have him in the booth presenting/announcing: He has the most charm I've ever seen in any American male swimmer. He is golden and that extends beyond the medals.

I just read the quote from Leyva: I didn't think it was rude at all but I'm an American and agree that I would need to be in their shoes to understand how it was rude. I can see how --if I was an athlete-- I might offend someone without realizing I was insulting them.

No. YOU posted comments about Leyva. When someone asked what was wrong with Leyva wanting to compete against his idol in another Olympics you said:

The article said nothing about Leyva talking to Uchimura while Uchimura was trying to sing the national anthem, and you were twisting what he did and said to make him look ugly. That was YOU. (And seriously, don't act like you were just innocently posting an article of interest when you started this thread and posted that article. You're fun, but you're no innocent angel. ) No Nathan Adrian for you!

Nah. They would have looked like dresses on them. Plus, I can't imagine those girls agreeing to wear those shirts on the podium. They would have stuck with the stupid grey outfits.

Exactly. People need to get it right.
Seriously, though, I think it's fun when we Canadians and Americans can poke fun at ourselves, but I hate seeing people turn on each other. And I also make a distinction between nationality and ethnicity in this context.

since someone brought up the war of 1812, I have to say that those obnoxious commercials celebrating its anniversary that keep running on CTV are driving me mad! They actually show indigenous people and then talk about defending "our land." Whose land? contentious land claims and settler colonialism are completely glossed over in those narratives. There's so much more to that story. ok, had to vent.

Back on topic...Nathan Adrian. Now there's an ugly American I'd like to get to know!
    GOR-GEOUS! cutest smile ever!
