Sorry I can't let the old thread be the last one just yet (we reached 1000 within a day!) , because I just saw that Gabby's current plans are to stick around for 2016 and her mom is now moving to Iowa with her. It was tweeted by Will Graves after her Today Show segment today.

That shows how much she loves gymnastics and recognizes that this is really just her first year in peak condition (crazy!). Happy is the understatement of all-time! I'm so over the moon on this Olympics, I'm thinking we might see this whole US team do the same thing.

Up until I read on here that gabby had won, I honestly could not believe that it would happen. I just thought shed crack under the pressure. I was so very very wrong and so happy to be proven so wrong.

As for Komova- eh, I didn't mind the tears. She had a right to be upset, but gabby won fair and square.
Marta must be over the moon right now-this is us gymnastics best Olympics ever.

I can't imagine Kyla Ross not staying. She's really never gotten a shot at AA and she's never even been to worlds. I have to imagine she's hoping to stay and do AA at worlds at least.

One of the Today Show commentators asked McKayla if they should start calling the Amanar the "Maroney" and she said that she thinks she should do her own vault so they can name it after her. Which makes me hope she'll stay and try and do just that and improve as an AA Gymnast.

It's hard to say with Jordyn. I'd guess she'll stay because she's not happy with the results here and she's not very old. But I'd love her to get a new coach.

Someone said in an earlier thread that Aly was planning to go to college so she's got one more year, at best, right? But even then Worlds are in October.

I have a feeling, that just like for the 2008 team, there are going to be a ton of 16 year olds with crazy tricks who are way less beat up in 2016. If Gabby, Jordyn, Kyla, and McKayla all stay, few if any of them will make the team which sucks.

I hope Komova stays and at least gives world Gold another shot even if she doesn't want to stay all the way to Rio.

I have to say that I don't default to whenever a gymnast announces they are staying in. Do I really want them to be like Chellsie Memmel? I love her, but she had to be shoveled off the gym floor. At some point, it gets a little ridiculous.

I would like Maroney to stay at least long enough to get a vault named after her. She is, in my opinion, the best vaulter in the history of the sport (possibly male or female), and a triple twisting Yurchenko looks like it will come easily. Ross is so young that it makes sense to stay, too, although I suspect her trajectory could look somewhat like Tasha Schwikert's or Bridget Sloan's.

Douglas, Raisman, and Wieber will probably never be better than they are today. If they want to stay in and will be satisfied with what are most probably lesser results and specialist-type positions, great. If they'd rather retire and do show gymnastics or whatever, that's a great decision, too.

It's not inherently a bad thing, in my opinion, for gymnastics to be more of a "once and done" Olympic sport.

Honestly, even though Gabby won the AA, I can see her improving. If she wants to continue and loves it, I see no problem with that.

I love Finnegan too. I hope Al Fong doesn't "break" her.

Since Aly graduated high school this year, and the next Worlds aren't until fall 2013, I doubt she'll continue competing, unless she wants to put college off for a few years (which wouldn't surprise me that much, since Aly thrives on competition).

Does anyone know if the 2013 Worlds will be AA and EF only like in '05 and '09?

I think when you are 16, just won a Gold Medal, it is easy to envision it always being this way. Keep practicing, keep improving, come back. What else would you do?

But, even just the next few weeks are going to be life-altering for her. I hope that when/if her perspective changes she will be willing to re-assess.
