Great diving competition, and now a great mens 4x100 relay! I SO wanted USA to win, but knew Jamaica had the superior team.

Yes, he's never been disqualified or anything like that.

The fecking jobsworthy asking him for the baton back was such a buzz kill to what should have been a huge celebration at the end of a fantastic meet. Usain Bolt has singlehandedly saved athletics and as far as I'm concerned he is entitled to do more or less what he wants. He has made the sport fun to watch again!

I saw the race itself but not the aftermath as I was out.

Yay that we get some Canadian wuzrobbing!

Did Bolt get to keep the baton in the end then?

Yes - looks one of the volunteers gave it to him.

They're dropping like flies in the marathon. Two US runners have dropped out already.

Had no idea, Fred, that you have such a hard-on for Bolt. My apologies.

I was reacting to the official's comment to Bolt that he would be disqualified if he didn't give the baton back.

Er, so in other news, go Ireland! Yay! (That better?)

I was there It was a great crowd. We cheered everyone, but the loudest cheers were for team GB, the leaders and the guy from Timor Leste who came last...but he responded to the crowd and waved which caused the biggest cheer of all

I meant to go and watch one lap but I stayed for 3. So glad I did, whoo!

As for dropping like flies...it was quite hot. Too hot for a marathon. I heard there was a lot of heat exhaustion.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.

Whoa! 3 brazilian athletes finished top 15 (5th, 8th, 13th) in the marathon. That's some accomplishment.

What angries me is that, because none of the medalled, most people here in Brazil will downright call them incompetent... sometimes I hate my country.

No hard-on. He's not my type. Just stating what he means to the sport.

That official was on a complete power trip. I would have liked to see him try to disqualify Jamaica though.

Much. And we're only behind Canada by about five places on the proper medal tables which is a bit of a shocker.

Why is it shocking? What does the ranking on the proper medal table tell you?

That a team with 277 athletes won the same amount of golds as one with 66. That's surprising to me.

So it only tells you Ireland has a woman who can pack a punch better then anyone else and Canada had a girl who could jump on a trampoline better then anyone else

I love the proper medal table

eta.. I personally never expect much from Canada in a summer games, if they manage to make the finals in an event I consider that a success. I´m more demanding in the winter games.
    Tessa and Scott: Thank you

But the larger teams usually have more athletes per sport, don't they? So if you have 3 athletes in one event, 2/3 of your team can't win gold.
