Rebeka Kim (14), who used to skate for Lithuania in ladies single, has switched to ice dancing with a goal of representing Korea at 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. She has been skating with Kirill Minov (19) of Russia for several months now. They are coached by Irina Zhuk and Alexander Svinin.

Se-Jin Lee (15) and Tae-Ho Kim (18) paried up last year under Korean Skating Union's ice dancing development program.

Korea has seven spots in ladies (and one additional spot at JGP Lake Placid), five in men, and two in ice dancing.

    Is Ho-Jung Lee injured?

I can't wait to see/hear how Hae-Jin Kim is doing.

Ho-Jung Lee has been battling ankle injury for a long time and had a second ankle surgery after the nationals. She has been back on ice after some months of hiatus but obvioulsy has not been able to recover in time for this competition.

I also heard Hae-Jin Kim had to go easy on jump practices due to bad knees. She still plans to go for 3lz-3t in the short. Two new programs choreographed by David Wilson.

So-Youn Park seems to be in good shape. 3S-3t planned for the short.

There were five couples listed for the new ice dance program, how are the others doing? Including Claudia Muller/Won-il Jang. There was also a team training with Igor, Yura Min/Sam Kaplun.

Three teams broke up - Claudia Muller/Won-Il Jang, Oh-Reum Cha/Hyun-Ji Kim, and Si-Jin Yang/Myung-Su Lee. Claudia Muller (who changed her official name to Jin-Ju Choi) is looking for a new partner.
Ji-Won Kim/Jae-Eung Oh are still training together but are too young for JGP (born in Oct and July 1999, respectively).
I heard Yura Min/Sam Kaplun are not coming to Korea as the team had only a short time to train together.

Thank you very much for the info and on keeping us up to date on Korean skaters in general.

Hopefully Hae-Jin will be able to select a couple of the later JGPs to give her more time to heal.

    Michelle K, thanks for posting.

Update about Yura Min (a female Korean-American icedancer coached by Igor Shpilband at Novi rink)

Yura Min and Sam Kaplun broke up three weeks ago.
She has searched for a new partner through try out again since then.

    Oh...dear.

I hope Hae-Jin will show a good performance overcoming her injury and she will get better soon.

Thank you for clearing this up! I wonder how many teams will be able to stick around till Pyeongchang.

Hae-Jin Kim - 3lz2t, 3f, 2a. Rough landing on 3lz. Jumps were overall shaky in the warmup. Ice coverage and speed looked better than Park's to me.
    So-Young Park - All jumps good and solid. 3s3t, 3f, 2a.
    Kyeong-Won Park - Surprise of the day. 3l2t, 3f, 2a.
    Hwi Choi - 3lz2t, 3f, 2a. Underrotation call?
    Ji-Hyun Byun - 3s2t, 2f, 2a

Other than the top four, the only lady to plan and land 3f was Yeo-Jin Song. 3f was big and airy, but she popped lutz and axel.

I heard a rumor that Korea has 10 ladies spots and assignments are going to be 2-2-2-1-1-1-1 for top 7.

At my blog, I linked the videos of all short programs at Korean Junior test skate for JGP assignments

You can see the short programs of Hae Jin KIM, So Youn PARK, June Hyoung LEE and Dong Won LEE who competed at last junior Grand Prix.
Also you can enjoy the short program of Jin Seo KIM, 2012 Korean National champion.

There were two short dances of new Korean ice dance teams who will represent South Korea.
It was the first South Korean ice dance competition for seven years, since Hye min KIM & Min Woo KIM appeared at a competition in 2005.

    Enjoy!!!

    Yeon-Jun PARK (Withdrew after SP)

Impressive 2a3t2t from So-Youn Park. I can see why she is doing two 2a3t combos in the free. Strong GOE potentials. I think she has nice musicality and moves well, but I find her upper body too stiff. Technically, she looks ready for JGP.
Hae-Jin Kim landed 6 triples but under-rotated triple loop and received low spin levels. Jumps looked improved in the All That Spring show back in May, but not here. I liked her short (La Boheme by Sergei Trofanov) but I don't really care for this sleeping beauty free program.

Min-Jeong Kwak withdrew due to a torn ligament. Hae-Jin Kim has been skating with back/knee problems for some time and appears to be even in a worse shape than she was at the beginning of the season. Still, she did much better than practice/warmup had indicated, which was also true with Ji-Hyun Byun who came in second in FS with 90.62, landing two crisp 3 loops along with solid 3t and 3s. So-Yeon Park was not stellar (step-out on 3f in SP and a fall on 3l in FS) but did enough to edge out Hae-Jin Kim by 10 points. Landed 3s-3t in SP, but I am not sure how the judged called the rotation on 3t (ladies group 1 protocols are missing on the KSU homepage). Yeon-Jun Park, who missed last nationals due to injury came back looking stronger. She skated two clean programs with triple toes and salchows but under-rotated some triples. Under-rotated triples are also an issue for Hwi Choi, but 3s and 3t landings looked improved to me. Hwi Choi is now training with Hae-Suk Shin, Yu-Na Kim and Hae-Jin Kim’s’ current coach. It’s good to see Kyu-Eun Kim finally landing 3s and 3t in competition with some consistency. She tends to be a bit too busy with her arms but is quite speedy and dynamic for a tiny girl. Ho-Jung Lee just took too much time off this year to be competitive here, but will likely be sent to 4CC if she earns the minimum tech score at one of senior Bs.

Da-Bin Choi with five clean triples out of six in FS (second 3t in 3t3t under-rotated) won the younger girls group over Na-Hyun Kim who landed 6 triples in FS. The two girls practically out-jumped top older girls here, earning FS tech scores of 52.42 and 53.69, respectively. I cannot say great things about their skating skills/presentation, but they are clearly working on them and showing improvements. Both will skate senior at nationals (Jan 4~6, 2013). Da-Bin Choi moved her training base to Toronto.

Men Group 1’s free skating final group warmup was amusing with four out of five skaters going for 3a one after another, with varying degrees of success. Jin-Seo Kim’s SP was not as disastrous as in JGPs, but he popped 3a into 1a. Jun-Hwan Cha in Group 2 was not as strong as he was about two weeks ago in another competition where he scored a total of 161.62, but he won’t be old enough for junior internationals until 2015/2016.

    Korea’s 4CC team will be,
Ladies: Hae-Jin Kim, Yeon-Jun Park (Ho-Jung Lee?, needs to earn minimum SP tech score)
    Men: Jin-Seo Kim, Min-Seok Kim, June-Hyoung Lee

is this the same skater who competed internationally between 2008-2010 and made it to worlds 2 times? If not, what happened to her?

This is a different Na-Young Kim who will turn 15 in December.
I think older Na-Young Kim did some international competitions in 2009/2010, but not much after that. She struggled with knee/back injuries for years. I heard she was diagnosed with generative arthritis in her right knee many years ago. Her last competition was Korea's Winter Sports Festival in Feb 2011 (which she did probably because she was required to do by the conditions of her admittance to university as an athlete).

Whoa, didn't know this thread existed until now! Can I assume that specific details and reports of Yuna's national skates would be posted here?
