I remember that too, we used it during QR of 2001 Worlds I think. That was when Kwan's skateblade had come un-hinged and everytime a new picture came up I was
That was so old school
And really doesn't seem like that long ago, I'm getting to that point as a gymfan where I feel a bit looney for having my favorite athletes be half of my age..
I'm not saying the complaints aren't justified and that people can't be upset about it, but take a step back and realize how far it's come and just the fact that we can even complain about live coverage of all events. I probably sound like that girl with the goggles by the pool scolding the kids with their TV in that commercial.![]()
I would never yell at someone while wearing those glasses, and while also being a girl, and if I did it would be because you brought a moving TV near a deep pool.
take a bath and watch TV in there instead

Especially since the men do pommel horse moves on the floor anyway.
It worked for William Levy.
I suspect that the chances that NBC might be grooming Miller for a prime time commentator spot are about as great as CTV/TSN and CBC hiring PJ Kwong to do figure skating commentary (after CBC sells BOLD).
Uchimura.
I'm so sad for Kuksenkov: He was one of my favorites. What a disappointment for Tanaka.
Shewfelt's co-host on CTV gave the silver medal to Leyva before Nguyen had even finished his final rotation and gotten his scores.![]()
CTV was focused on Hambuchen and blah, blah, Boy, blah, and only after a few rotations did they notice that Nguyen was top five, and then they started to follow his progress and show his routines.

I wonder why the Chinese decided only to have 1 gymnast do all the events in qualification. That one gymnast didn't even make it to top 24. I guess they were concentrating on getting the team gold instead of all around gold. It's strange to not see a Chinese competing for the all around title.
Another 4th for Ukraine....millions depressions again....I SO much want a medal for them!!
Guo Weiyang had a terrible time in prelims and missed the top 24. He's not that great IMO, although he redeemed himself in the TF.
Perhaps the Chinese realized they don't have a gymnast with great AA potential, so invested their efforts developing specialists instead.
He was first in line as an alternate, but did not compete once Flavius Koczi withdrew. Stepan Gorbachev (KAZ) was the second alternate, but he had already left London so it was the third alternate who got into the final, Jimmy Verbaeys of Belgium.
Not that this means Guo performed any better in qualies, but I don't understand people saying he couldn't do AA. The option was there. Not sure if he was injured or 'punished', but either way he didn't take advantage of the opportunity.
Congrats to all the medalists! Glad Uchimura shook off the TF issues. Soabout Orozco though. I knew he wasn't going to do well. Gymnastics seems like a job to him that his parents, especially his mom, really really want him to do, and when he's worried about winning the Olympics to pay the mortgage and help his family instead of just for himself, that's just too much pressure to handle.
Nguyen totally won me over with his look and style of gymnastics. I'm a total fan now!I was googling pictures and videos of him last night like a crazy stalker.

I know. I would have liked to have seen his high bar routine. In fact, there's a bunch more routines I would have liked to have seen from other gymnasts. I don't know why NBC has to show us so much fluff. They were repeating fluff on Leyva. Also, I guess I'm in the minority, but I really don't care about beach volleyball. But, I'm guessing that I'm not the target demographic there. I will say that I like the diving coverage. It's concise, but fairly comprehensive with competent commentating.
I love watching diving at the Olympics. Cynthia Potter is a fantastic commentator, she explains without making it too technical and doesn't clearly favor any athletes. They also cut it very tightly so there was a minimum of following divers around doing nothing, and we saw almost all the dives from the top 5 teams.
The people cutting this coverage for NBC have no excuse not to include all relevant routines and cut out the crap. I watched the BBC live feed today for the women's AA, and they were going back and forth in time to sneak in more routines that were shown simultaneously to what was on live. We got almost all of the top group, plus they showed quite a good deal of Iordache and Izbasa, as well as a few Brits. I'd be shocked if NBC even deigned to show anyout outside of the top 4.
The coverage is excellent, and so is Potter for the reasons you state. For the most part, she is right on the money with what the marks should be.
I was so upset with the coverage of the individual all-around. One routine was shown of the eventual silver medalist! Heavens (and too bad, because the guy's a cutie!).
Great competition. Really happy for the medalists and Nguyen was awesome. I never would have expected it. Belyavskiy did well too for a top five placing and I think he has so much more potential.
I'm really wanting a Ukranian and Russian to medal in the event finals. They deserve it. Though it'll be difficult with Ablyazin having the best chance.
