I liked seeing his winning swims from Athens because I have no memory of those games, at all. I know I must have watched but...nothing.

OMG. On the news just now they showed a slow-mo of McKayla's vault and paused to show someone on the judging panel going

She said she wanted to go to Rio, and he said he'd buy her a ticket.

Well if that judge was so amazed, she should have given McKayla a 10!

Cool brief segment on Dwyer on the local Chicago news (he's from Winnetka).

They didn't address this on the local coverage. I rather liked it however!

    Yeah, it's sinking in that....
    1) 1996 was half my life ago
    2) I was their age, or a bit younger, the last time the US ladies won the OOOOOs
    3) They were barely born.

It didn't hit me until now either that 2004 was ancient to them, and they only know of Carly Paterson thanks to DVDs.

The first couple of times this sort of thing happens, it's disconcerting. After awhile, you just go with the flow. There are even some things to laugh about! (trust me)

That photo is priceless. And yes, why didn't they give 10 then?

I wonder if a 10 in the first rotation in team finals was thought to potentially give too much of an insurmountable lead.

If vault had been last or if this were event finals, maybe Maroney would've had a better shot at 9.9 or 10.

Is 9.733 the highest E score recorded under the new code at a Worlds/Olympics? That would make me feel a bit better about it.

Yes but look at how high the rest of these vaults are scoring including Russia's. They either need to lower everyones vault scores or give that girl a 10. She's amazing on vault.

Oh, my! I was just saying to DH that I remember the 1996 Macarena like it was yesterday. Where did my 20's go?

It will be hard tomorrow to decide who to root for. Gabby or Vika?

Kyla wasn't even born until a few months after the Mag 7 won, if that makes you feel REALLY old.

The judges might be saving their 10s for the Vault EF which, barring disaster, Maroney will hands down win.
