I also knew it was coming for the US gymnasts but after holding my happy tears inside the entire afternoon (I was at work), it felt SOOOOO good to let it all out and go bonkers into tears for the US team! I am SO thrilled for them and they will never forget that moment for the rest of their lives. I can live with anything else that happens with the gymnastics competition (well, McKayla winning vault is another wish of mine so that better happen too
) because the only thing I wanted more than anything else was gold for the US women's team. Today, they reached out and grabbed it and I AM SO HAPPY FOR THEM!!!!

Michael sounds so zen. It almost makes me annoyed at his mom for trying to push him to do another Olympics. Because he seems so mature, calm, and just soaking it all in here. I think he's enjoying knowing that this is the very last Olympics.

He does seem more mature now, which is good to see, but that interview went on for way too long. I would have much preferred to see many of the gym performances that were chacked simply to hear Bob Costas ask the same questions Phelps has been asked a million times before with the same canned responses. It's mainly NBC's fault that I'm so tired of hearing about Phelps. He's been very gracious, actually, throughout these games. Yeah, he's said and done stupid things, but who hasn't? He's just unlucky that everything he does is scrutinized.
He's also unlucky that he had to deal with both Andrea Joyce and Bob Costas in one night, but he handled both well-better than I might have!
But yeah, that was a great montage, and he's had a great career. I hope the games wrap up well for him.
Theatregirl, do you mean that his mom wanted him to do another after these games?

Phelps mom does talk about him going to Rio a lot but he is showing definite fraying around the edges here! By Rio I'd imagine him to be like Popov in 2004 or Thorpe earlier this year!
