To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.

Was really hoping Millousi would make beam finals. Her 4th Olympics. 14.33 isn't going to cut it though

I seriously feel like she was robbed, that was such a clean routine, she's really disappointed too

FWIW she actually won the beam at the test event!

Agreed - that was a nice routine and I actually had confidence in her, which is a rarity on beam these days. She has real elegance.

There are five groups today - we are in group one at the moment, with Brazil as the only full team competing. There are several indiviudal gymnasts competing from smaller nations for indiviudal finals. After these five groups the top 8 full teams will go through to the team final on Tuesday.

The top 24 indiviudal gymnasts will go through to the All Around final.

The top 8 gymnasts on each apparatus will go to the event finals.

Look out for USA, RUssia, China, ROmania, GB, Japan, Brazil, Australia, France

Interesting - Shannon Miller talking about her father being a physics professor, and how he taught her the physics of staying on the balance beam. She said the scientific understanding gave her confidence on the beam.

basically, most of these girls are doing triple salchows in a world of 3 axels.

This is like the first group of pairs at a European championships. But some of these ladies are really good at 1, maybe 2 apparatus and at the end of the day, if there scores are in the top 8, the will go to the event final.

Millousi is particularly good at beam, Pena and Maksiuta are particularly good at vault. Unfortunately, like skating, judges are being very tight with the execution marks for this first sub division!

Psst ... for those in the US without NBC streaming: http://livetv.ru/en/eventinfo/127001_olympic_games/

Of course the channels would have to be showing gymnastics, but higher likelihood on Eurosport.

Interesting indeed. My choir conductor has a degree in physics (and there are 4 physics phds singing in the choir ) - they explain things (sometimes getting a bit too carried away and writing too many complicated equasions), and indeed it makes things well, not easier, but at least we understand what we are aiming for better.

    So, finally got it.

A warning: Don't download the 11.3 Adobe flash player even if prompted. There are known issues as "now one cannot watch videos anymore" and you have to find that out, deinstall it and install an earlier version,

    pffff
