I wanted Roger to win gold, but very happy for Andy Murray. Perhaps this straight-set win in a best-of-5 match will give Murray the belief that he can win a slam--where he'll most likely have to beat two of the big 3 as he did at this tournament.

And, congrats to Del Potro!! So happy he didn't walk away from the Olympics without a medal after that heart-breaking semis loss.

Aww, I wanted Roger to get the gold. I think this was definitely his last chance. But, congrats to Andy. Nice to see him get this after the Wimbledon heartbreak.

Nice words from Fed - from the BBC live Text page:

    TENNIS
Olympic silver medallist Roger Federer after his straight sets defeat by Andy Murray: "He was better, much better than I was today but I'm happy with silver. I had a very emotional tournament. Maybe I was emotionally drained but, nevertheless, I didn't think I played too badly, but things didn't go my way. It's unfortunate, but still a great day for me. Andy looked like he was never doubting himself and he was able to come through this time around. He's had a wonderful career already and I'm happy for him."

I still think there is another Olympics for Roger. I'm so happy for Andy to win for the UK in the UK. I think Roger is the greatest the sport has seen and I think and hope we will see him in Rio.

I'm really happy Makiri ended the Olympics with a medal; it would have sucked for her to be FORTH in both of her events.

    Belarus gets Mixed gold!

Not a bad day for British tennis, though.

The Belarusian flag is rather chic, IMHO. Great pattern.

    Wheee, Vika and Max!

ETA: Vika should go for the career golden slam in Mixed Doubles. She has the Olympic gold, the US Open and the French Open already. It's totally doable for her!

I would have preferred if Robson/Murray won but for Laura Robson to be an Olympic Medallist at her age is amazing. and it's nice for Mirnyi at his age too and Vika has had an amazing Olympics as well. Murray has been just great! Congrats to him and his two medals.

It'll be a while for the medal ceremony for the mixed as the bronze medal match has yet to be played!!

    Holy CRAP!!

Totally did not see this one coming. I hoped that Andy would have a good match, but taking Roger in three straight sets????

So very sad for Roger, but OTOH, he does finally have an Olympic Medal and he looked and also sounds happy about it.

ANDY!!! So beyond thrilled for him and I think that Wimbledon Final was the start of this. He said in his interview w/McEnroe that Lendl told him after that loss a few weeks ago that from now on, it'll be easy because he got through the most pressure filled match of his life that day. True he didn't win, but he also didn't collapse either, and now Andy can handle anything.

I have a good feeling for the US Open and I can't wait!!!

I did have a bit of a laugh over the Medal Ceremony though when both British and Argentinian flags got blown so far backwards by the wind you couldn't really see them from the front, but the Swiss one never moved. All I could think was that even the Weather Gods thought Roger's the greatest of all time and by leaving his flag alone, was showing him the proper respect.

    And YAY for Bunny Nose!!!

Thanks Fergus for the new nickname for DelPo.

    Quite the Olympics, wasn't it?

Oh and the empty seats thing, while yes we get why it happens, it's still a black eye to the Games and it bugged me watching Wimbledon coverage than anything else. That place is *always* packed for the Fortnight in early Summer, so to see empty seats *there* of all places during the Games really pissed me off more in way. So many fans could have gotten in there, but ohhhh nooo....

Yes, I get the Sponsors and "Olympic Family" are given blocks of seats, but when they're not claimed, then don't go w/the excuse of, "Oh, but it's a sold out event/venue..." crap when everyone else can easily see so many empty seats.

They really do need to come up w/something to fix this. It just looks so bad and doesn't serve the Games at all well either.

To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.

And I knew that too. We had humidity we've never had in our area before all day yesterday and I just can't handle humidity anymore. I'm on fumes today thanks to that, so we'll chalk up my blank on that one.
