Varla: "You knew my mother?? What was she like?" Coco: "Very sweet." Evie: "Uh-huh, and a BIG pothead!" -- from "Girls Will Be Girls" (2002)
Gone too soon, and from such a horrible disease.RIP, Sally.
"High Flight" is a perfect tribute to her, cygnus.
President Reagan quoted High Flight when eulogizing the Challenger crew. It gets used quite a bit. It's also engraved on the memorial to the Apollo One crew here in Jackson, MI (Roger Chaffee, who was to the LM pilot on that flight, was from Michigan.) IIRC, the poet was killed not long after writing it. I had Sally Ride's book for kids ("To Space and Back") and she dedicated it to the last Challenger crew.
Most cancer sucks. Pancreatic sucks a lot. They usually never catch it until it's too late. Hopefully she didn't suffer much. That's the cancer that really needs walk-a-thons and research-funding drives.
