Nicki Minaj judging a singing show is just as ridiculous as JLo doing it. She is so autotuned it's hard to tell what she would normally sound like. If it wasn't for the stupid outfits no one except rap fans would know who she is. And maybe not even them.

The show is named American IDOL. Based on the British program Pop IDOL.
The show is not about finding the best vocalist that exists. It's about finding a pop star. Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez and Nicki Minaj are all excellent pop stars. So all have been wonderful choices for this tv show.

I agree, it's about finding a pop star, not being one. Esp if you're one because you can shake your booty or because you get attention for your insane outfits. JLo was a horrible judge imo. But she did jumpstart her comeback by being on Idol.
