Our idiot local radio broadcasters were arguing whether it would be Mick Jagger or Paul McCartney. WTF?

Nor me, perfect to cap off her Diamond Jubilee

Not everyone is going to be happy with any particular choice and why not, while the Royal Family are at a popularity peak that they havent had in years.

I fail to see what's wrong with that? Given all of her service over the 60 years of service and with Diamond Jubilee, I wouldn't be opposed to that at all! My mom and I were talking about it last night, my mom wants to see a repeat of Li Ning in Beijing with Queenie flying around the stadium in a harness

I don´t think it would be wrong, but, I guess, she will officially declare the Games open, an important part of the ceremony, and, anyway, I seriously hope that the lighthing is reserved to someone whose life has been related to sport. It´s the biggest honor for an sportsman, a great and eternal recognition.

I doubt she'll do it since she's already doing the official opening declaration. I wouldn't mind if she did, though.

Probably it'll be one of the favourites.

I think it will be either Roger Bannister or David Bond (the last surviving British Gold Medalist from the 1948 London Olympics)

Queen is great, but British have so many great athletes, i think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a generation of athletes. Queen can declare the games open but I don't want her to declare the games open and light the cauldron.

It was so anticlimactic. I really don't get why you'd bring in a lot of Olympic medalists, then have them stand and do nothing while young athletes nobody has heard of light the torch. If it was so important to have athletes of the future in this part, why not have them run along with the people who nominated them?

Or barring that, since they seem to think that the method rather than the person is the highlight, it could be something that requires a lot of training/rehearsal to execute and they couldn't pick someone ultra famous because it would be easy to suss out.

    Either way, I'm curious now!

Eta: upon further thought, all signs point to the Tenth Doctor lighting the torch.
    Lotto numbers please!! LOL.
