Dai could sweep the next two seasons- which seems unlikely in the extreme - and he still won't have a record as good as Yagudin's, despite having quite a few more season to compete in. He had one season when he was considered the man to beat, and it ended with him Zayaking himself off the World podium.
I like Dai, he's a great skater, loved his Worlds winning performances and his programs this past season. But Yags is in a league of his own here. And while his skating isn't IJS friendly (why should it be?), he was an amazing 6.0 skater.
I like Dai. But I love Lesha!![]()

104 years after first winning the OGM in Special Figures in London, Nikolai Panin is still the reigning champion in his discipline. Even the Henies, Grafströms, and Rodninas of this world can't say that.
If he goes totally bionic at some point, might have a ghost of a chance of meeting that standard, but I rather doubt it.

Actually, what most people have said is that a skater's record doesn't necessarily have to be the key criterion, not that it's absolutely not the criterion. I think Yagudin's very impressive record reflects his talent and abilities, while Takahashi's not-as-impressive-as-it-could-be record does not reflect what he can do as a skater. So I give the edge to the guy who was a great skater and competitor, and whose results are commensurate with his potential. If others prefer to vote for Dai because they enjoy his skating that much, and are willing to overlook his inconsistency over the years, of course that's a legitimate view. Just not my view.
Argh. I didn't want Yagudin to win this so easily, but worthy competitors would have been Plush and Chan. Against, Takahashi, I have to vote for him.
