When the skaters, mostly in the 90's would in the kiss N cry area take their hair and move it over their ear, take their ear lobe and pull it twice etc? I have always wondered that. Here are some examples.

Carol Burnett--an American comedienne/actress--used to have a TV variety show in the 1970's and, at the end of each episode after she sang the closing song, she'd tug on her earlobe in the same manner. I seem to remember that she once explained that that was her way of saying "hello" to her grandmother(?) while on TV.

Carol Burnett was the one who made this signal famous. Since she coudn't say "Hi Gramma!" on TV, she invented this signal for her instead to let her know she loved her. She never stopped doing the ear tug even after her grandmother died.

Why do I know this? It's akin to remembering the lyrics to commercials. I think sung words may be stored in a slightly different part of the brain than spoken words.
