Put simply, most of these designer drugs are undetectable. A drug needs to be known to the scientists in order for them to create a test for them to detect it. Where the drug is unknown, there is no test and thus no chance of failing.
Where athletes use steroids, they mainly do so in the off season essentially to help them train longer and work harder. Generally, off season athletes go untested or can avoid tests (unless they are British and have a national body that stalks them all year long).
Venelina Veneva is an interesting case of steroid abuse. She's a Bulgarian Hugh jumper (I don't want to comment on her appearance, but she destroyed herself aesthetically with drug abuse). Steroids hardly make a person jump higher, but they do enable them to push themselves more and get more numbers in training. Veneva was actually pushing her body to the limit. She was finally caught when her self confidence was dwindling and a winter of injury forced her to use steroids on the cusp of the summer season, then first competition out she was tested and caught. I can't help but think she was the epitome of a misguided fool who probably would have jumped the same heights without drugs and DEFINITELY looked better doing it!
She's like a:
VERY
BAD
TRANSVESTITE
Very true and add her hammer throwing teammate Lysenko to that.
Hopefully Muller and Heidler can beat them both in London. How things have changed! Whilst GDR athletes were positively bursting with steroids, I would say Germany are the cleanest athletic nation in the sport at present.
IAAF Suspends 9 athletes for doping, 2 ukrainians and 3 russians, shame that those russians dont include Pyschalnikova or Lysenko

Very bad transvestite indeed: These before and after pictures are horrendous.

Greek high jumper fails test
Greece's world indoor high jump champion Dimitris Chondrokoukis has pulled out of the London Olympics after testing positive for a banned substance, the athlete's father confirmed today. The 24-year-old high jumper, who was one of Greece's best hopes for a medal in track and field, will seek a retest after testing positive for banned anabolic steroid Stanozolol.
To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.
The Greek team is depleting!

Also out: Kövago, the second Hungarian discus thrower after Fazekas. And Turkish weight lifters Baydar & Arat.
I have the impression that many NOCs fear detection at Olys and decided to get rid of some of their liabilities. Good to see.
Terrified by the Twitter rumours...they are just starting to gather momentum.

^^This guy was first to post about many the positive drug test. I really hope he's wrong, it could potentially ruin British and American track, the Salazar group are that prominent.
I'm not even going to name the athletes involved, it's not fair at this point :/
From the BBC live feed:
Uzbek gymnast Luiza Galiulina has been provisionally banned from the London Games for a positive drugs test, the International Olympic Committee has announced.
Galiulina provided a urine sample on July 25 that tested positive for the prohibited substance furosemide - a diuretic that can be used as a masking agent or for weight loss.

And Ian Thorpe when he was 14 didn't look 14. Some people are big early. they're not average people, that's why they're in the Olympics...
but of course, other things could be at play too...
Tameka Williams of Trinidad and Tobago has been sent back home from the Olympics. Speculation is this is because she failed a drug test.

This is speculation not confirmed.
Have you seen that lead singer LATELY!?
