Part of the rule is that if a costume is cut low in the front, it cannot be cut low in the back as well, whether or not the area is covered by illusion fabric. I'm wondering about Samantha Cesario's "Swan Lake" FS costume, which she designed. It's cut low in front and back.

I don't think it is either, but it is low cut front and back.

The men who were at the party where I watched Nationals thought the black on her front looked like hands reaching up and grabbing her chest. Apparently the 'swan' costume was lost on them.

Samantha's costume is not only cut low in front and back, but on the sides, too. I'd hate to see her get a costume deduction--I like Cesario very much, and thought her FS was among the best of the night.

Does it depend if the official in charge of costume inspection is bored and wants to feel important? Who actually makes the costume/prop deductions?

Cesario's dress might be too tame for this thread.

Each judge has the capability to post -1.00 for a costume or prop violation. If a majority of the judges do so, the referee applies a 1.00 deduction.

It was brought to my attention by euterpe that this young lady received a costume deduction this year at the JGP. I mean, I cannot see why. I've heard all underage women in France skate around nude to jazz music. Those stuffy judges! This seems to be inspired by Josephine Baker, but it comes off as just, well, naked.

I agree- best of the ladies. Also loved Madison Chock as best in dance ...it was high risk but the framing of the face with the collar was top rate.
