I am quite disappointed they didn't invite Yuzuru to Japan Open but yay for Gracie Gold and it will be interesting to see Patrick's new competitive program.

But Jeff Buttle is participating in both segments. I wonder about the logic, too.

Exactly. Joannie seems to enjoy the team events, and it's a long way to travel from Canada for just one competition. Maybe she has other commitments (?).

Maybe IMG just wanted to balance 2 Americans (Wagner, Gold) with 2 Canadians (Chan, Buttle) for Team North America? This competition should give Gracie a bye through her Regionals (Upper Great Lakes) in October.

    Thank you Sylvia.

It's gonna be exciting if Plushenko will compete!

Why is the other lady in Team North America "TBD"? Will Gracie be replaced by Joannie?

I checked the Web site of JO and Gracie's name was still there (Of course it says the entries are subjected to change).
    What happened to Gracie?

Since I don't know when the Announcement was published, I have no idea which Japan Open roster is more current/accurate.

Gold is listed for the "Carnival on Ice" exhibition which takes place the same day, right after the Japan Open: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?t=84188

    Thank you again.

It seems the Announcement is replaced by a new version.
    http://www.isu.sportcentric.net/db//...ve.php?id=3583

According to this version, the roster is:
    Team Japan:
Akiko Suzuki, Daisuke Takahashi, Takahiko Kozuka and (1) TBD

    Team Europe:
Elene Gedevanishvili, Alena Leonova, and (2) TBD

    Team North America:
Ashley Wagner, Jeffrey Buttle, Patrick Chan and (1) TBD

So Mao Asada and Evgeni Plushenko are not on the list and still no Gracie.

Maybe they should invite Samuel contesti. He was great at world team trophy and newly retired/coaching.

There's still kanako and miki for Japan, and mirai and Caroline for north America.

Isn't "Carnival on Ice" the day after the Japan Open? Gracie probably doesn't want to skate on back to back days which would be insane. Plus October is the start of the GP season so i don't see why she would want to skate in a couple other events beforehand just a couple weeks before Skate Canada..

No, it's on the same day. Which means two performances in one day (as skaters do just one competition program at Japan Open) - nothing insane here. In other shows, skaters often have to do two performances in about two hours time, plus the collective opening and closing numbers (although not always). And sometimes they have to do that twice in one day, and then also the next day, and the day after that. Of course, a show performance is not a competition program, but I can imagine that it takes a lot of energy as well. So, skaters are used to that.
