I know how you feel. I also remember that he was allowed to skate in the Gala even though he was lower than 5th place. (Alexander Abt would have had that spot, but he graciously gave up his spot so that Todd could skate his last gala at "home". Now that is sportsmanship. )

Really? I never knew that. Another reason to admire and respect Sasha Abt! Very classy thing to do.

Good lord, is Todd "Everything but the quad" Eldredge really going to kicked out before Brian "Nothing but the quad" Joubert?

I do like Brian Joubert, felt sad for him during his Olympics, loved his "Matrix" and Beethoven programs. The only time I was really upset with him was when he seemed to make such a big deal over the quad, the season Jeff Buttle won Worlds (2009, righ?t - which I think Jeff rightly deserved to win).

It seems all the North American skaters will be kicked off before any Euro skaters (other than Urmanov) will be in danger.

No, you certainly are not! I'm not too sure about some of the others, though.

Sadly, I think there are a lot of posters here who have no appreciation for North American skaters (or at least certain ones in particular).

Of course, you are right. Even Lysacek is not a mediocre skater, if we compare him to many of those who have never risen above some fifteenth/twentieth place in WCH. He's just not one of the greatest.

Evan Lysacek's competitive results are far from mediocre. Since 2005, Lysacek competed in 28 competitions and failed to medal only two times ( 4th at 2006 Olympics & 5th at 2007 WC).

I know that. When I compared Lysacek to those who have never gotten further than the fifteenth place, I didn't mean just his placings. What I meant was that he is much better than most of those skaters, but not quite as great as some other champions. There are less than ten skaters/pairs in each discipline whom I would call "great" for this or that reason.

Indeed, Evan's worst Olympic result (4th) matches Todd's best Olympic result.

Evan at Worlds = 1 World title in 4 tries
Todd at Worlds = 1 World title in 8 tries

Evan on the quad = Sometimes landed
Todd on the quad = Never landed (except maybe once in a fluff competition)

Evan's triple axel = Not good though usually landed
Todd's triple axel = Very good, though it sure failed him in the Nagano FS

Didn't Evan get a costume deduction for his "Nipple" costume and thong? I think it was Olympic season. I might not enjoy his skating, but he wasn't boring with his costumes that's for sure.

I can't even remember any of Todd's costumes. I guess they were all black and conservative.

Evan would have never won a single World or Olympic title in any era other than the one he won in. Certainly not in 93-98 when you had Browning, Stojko, Urmanov, Kulik, and Eldredge himself, and Todd atleast did what Evan wouldnt have, won a World title in that era. Not in 99-2002 when you had Yagudin and Plushenko. Not in 2003-2007 when you had Plushenko, Lambiel, and Joubert all at their best. He won a couple of big events when there was literally no competition at all, everyone retired, out injured, coming back from injury layoff, or not ready yet. His biggest competition for the Olympic Gold was a 27 year old way past his prime Plushenko who had been out of competition for years, and showed up with horribly COP-unfriendly programs and still nearly won.

Winning 1 World in 4 tries as opposed to 1 of 8 is basically rewarding him for not attending the 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012 Worlds, none of which he would have won. Todd was top 2 at 4 of his 8 Worlds, and medaled in 6 of 8, a more impressive overall stat IMO. Obviously Evan gets the edge for Olympic performance, Todd again for U.S National performance where even being royally gifted the 2008 title Evan has less U.S titles than Abbott and Weir in the same era.
