    Skating to the Nutcracker

I was going to create a poll for this, but I came across this performance by Katherine Healy, and decided to just make it a non-poll thread. How can you compare this Pas de Deux with - for example, that of Gordeeva-Grinkov's or Shen & Zhao's? She is unique because she never skated competitively at a high level, from what I read.

Here is Katherine Healy (age 15- hard to believe!):

Others who skated to Pas de Deux:

    Gordeeva-Grinkov (pro- around 1991/92)

Bechke & Petrov (92 Oly LP and later pro)

    Shen & Zhao (2004? LP)

    Sasha Cohen (2005 LP)

    Davis & White (ex)

Music other than Pas de Deux from the Nutcracker:

Ilia Kulik (pro- one of my favorite programs)

    Jill Trenary (89 LP)

Ilia also created this lovely program to Waltz of the Flowers for a TV Christmas special.

No, she didn't because she turned pro VERY young. When she skated there was a huge line between amateur and professional.

She was a lovely skater, but an even more beautiful ballerina, IMO.

Quite right, she turned pro at age 11. Much as she loved skating, ballet was her biggest passion, and she chose to concentrate on that.

I seem to recall a Nutcracker by Asada, maybe in her first senior season? Or in her hybrid season, when she skated GP but couldn't go to the Olympics? (Or maybe it was all a dream…)

Anastasia Martiusheva and Alexei Rogonov had an adorable Nutcracker program the year they won silver at Jr. Worlds in 2009. Unfortunately I can't find a better performance than this one (JGPF 08/09).

Of course, G&G is my favorite.
I had never watched John Curry's. And yes, I find it beautiful, as every program of his. I love him.

I vaguely remember that, but can't be sure. I will have to search YT.

ETA: here is the link, but I can't hear the music, so I am not sure if she is skating to the Nutcracker.

I remember that around 1994/95 there was a Nutcracker on ice on TV, starring Oksana Baiul (Clara), Viktor Petrenko (magician) and Brian Boitano (prince). Rory Flack Burghart skated to waltz of the flowers, but I could not find a Yt link to the individual performances.

Yep, Asada's definitely skating to the Nutcracker--Waltz of the Flowers, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, etc.

Caroline Zhang also had a Nutcracker LP, using selections from the Pas de Deux: http://youtu.be/rL93yrhgOAU

Yuka Sato skated to Waltz of the Flowers for her technical program at 1998 World Pros.

Gracie Gold's short program music this past season was Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

I love Yuka Sato and I adore Waltz of the Flowers, but I can't bear to watch that performance due to the extreme fugliness of her dress.

Jason Brown did the Pas de Duex to win 2010 Junior Nationals...

Plushenko's original SP for the 05-06 Olympic season was supposed to be a Nutcracker SP. I wish he would bring it back! I would love to see him do it.

Mao's nutcracker was adorable. Very pleasant and age appropriate.
