Best 2A by a female singles skater (Pick 3)

Apologies for mucking up the first attempt at this poll; that was cretinous.

One of the easier jumps, to be sure, and it's been done correctly by many more ladies than, say, the lutz has been. Still, I find a great double axel to be as beautiful as any layback spin and, on occasion, as impressive as most triple jumps.

Some examples that informed the making of this list:

Mao Asada, 2011 Rostelecom Cup FS

    Oksana Baiul, 1994 Olympics SP

    Tonya Harding, 1987 NHK Trophy

    Sarah Hughes, 2002 Olympics SP

    Midori Ito, 1988 Olympics SP

    Kim Yu-Na, 2011 Worlds SP

    Anna Rechnio, 1999 Worlds SP

    Gabriele Seyfert, 1968 Olympics FS

    Irina Slutskaya, 2006 Olympics SP

    Elena Vodorezova, 1982 Worlds SP

    Elaine Zayak, 1994 US Nats

My own list of honorable mentions is exhaustive and based on absolutely no expertise in the sport whatsoever, as you might suppose: Debi Thomas, Chen Lu, Julia Sebestyen, and Shizuka Arakawa are just some of the names that come up.

One more thing: I'm usually not a glutton for punishment, but a serious craving for the and of others set in this afternoon and will not leave, so...

Sasha Cohen had a very strong double axel too. She was very consistent with it, and she always fully rotated it, and landed it with a beautiful landing position.

    I like Oksana's Sasha's and Mirai's. Kwan's wasn't bad either.

The 2A is one of my fav jumps and it isn't as easy of a jump as it seems.

In spite of her wonky triple jump technique, the double axel was Rosalynn Sumners' money jump. She would often include three or four in a competitive number.

As a professional, it was still huge and she would often precede it with an Ina Bauer.

I'll look for some more examples soon.

Where's Michelle? Her holding gorgeous edge after 2A was one of the highlights in her programs!

I voted YNK, Irina, and Ito with Yuna on the top. She has had ina-bauer, spread eagle, and many other difficult transitions right into 2A and out of it. Even her 2A combinations including 2A-3T had those difficult transitions. This was so rare quality to be seen from ladies.

Some place competitive and athletic, but ultimately more like an audition than anything else.

How is this a fair comparison? Midori is not only doing a counter entrance, but her hands are on her hips while rotating. Its like combining Gabby and Irina then adding a difficult variation.

Midori clearly demonstrates the most virtuousity, although I think Gabby demolishes everybody else, except maybe early Harding.

IIRC Midori did a double axel, while holding an umbrella in both her hands.

I think Roz Sumners had the best 2A, perhaps because it was her most important jump, she really had it so huge and perfect. Even many years after turning pro, she was doing better 2As in shows than eligible skaters did in competitions. Overall, I never saw her as a skater known for her jumps, but the 2A was so good.

Of this list, I picked Tonya, when she was on, she was just a spectacular jumper, every jump including the 2A.

ETA: Essence of Soy beat me to it.

I forgot about Holly Cook, but she definitely had one of the best double axels ever.
