No singles judges from US or Canada at Worlds. In fact, Canada will only have a pairs judge there.

That should remove almost all of the comments about the "home advantage", shouldn't it

Judges are pretty much irrelevant if the technical controllers decide to call the shots like they did at Euros last year. When do they announce the callers?

Its more about the callers than the judges anymore. Levels often make the difference.

Agree. Probably, they have already decided who the technical controllers and specialists are going to be for the whole season, including worlds. This information is never announced to the public until about one day before the competition officially begins, when they post the ISU results website for the competition. So as of now, only the ISU insiders (technical committee members, etc.) have access to that information.

And why is that? I wish the ISU would start to develop a computer technique to replace the technical controllers. But maybe it doesn't want to do that...

IMO the technical controller has waayyy too much influence on the score. There should be more people on the technical panel.

That's not really possible in skating. Way too many variables to take into account.

A computer program could assist with certain things like counting the rotations in a jump for example. But even that would be super difficult to program. Let alone things like correct edges on turns, what a difficult position is in certain elements, etc.

In what way does the Technical Controller have way too much influence? Have you sat in on a Technical Panel and listened to them?

And if you think there should be more people on the panel, then what is the ideal number?

triple_toe, first of all the technical controller doesn't have too much influence on his own. There are two other people there and in the end it is a majority decision.

Secondly, if you have more than three people then taking decisions would take forever. And they have to make decisions fast.

The issue here for me is that there still aren't that many technical panelists compared to judges out there. And they don't get drawn just like the judges do (which is what should be happening).
