That's great - I'm sure everyone is so happy!

In other baby news, Crown Princess Mette-Marit recently visited India to welcome twins born to friends of hers via surrogacy. As the parents were having visa issues, she went there to be with the babies right after the birth. Hospital staff figured she was the nanny

Sounds like they've been forced to announce early, but the tone isn't cautious, so hopefully that means she's OK

Awww, congrats!! Unfortunate that she has severe morning sickness--hopefully they can at least keep her well hydrated and the baby will be OK.

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I guess that if she didn't have to be admitted to hospital for the severe morning sickness we wouldn't have had an announcement until she was over the 1st trimester - probably early 2013. Still she is in the best place for her and hopefully she will be out and be able to enjoy christmas with both her family as well as the royal family!!

I hope it is a girl! (ok -- I hope the baby is healthy first but I would love to see a future Queen)

William always said he didn't want to start a family before he was 30. He's 30. To whoever it was who told me when they got married that there would be a baby within a year...I told you so!

Huge congrats to them, it's wonderful news Looking forward to a new royal baby! Boy or girl, it doesn't matter to me. There's a Queen and a king between now and that baby
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.

Great new! I hope that she is feeling better soon. My friend had hyperemesis gravidarum and should have been hospitalized. It is not fun.

So many congrats to Will and Kate!!! Sucks that they had to tell everyone so early (and that poor Kate is suffering so with acute morning sickness!) but at least the bump-watch can stop.

As this thread is almost full my suggestion for a new title thread is "Knitting the Royal Booties".

Do we have a knitting emoticon smiley yet?? Worlds in Canada is coming so that would be a dual purpose smiley!

I am also happy they got to make the announcement, rather than having some tabloid get the story first. (I don't count all the stories that have been "reported" since they became engaged - nobody got it right.)

This article from the BBC explains what the Duchess of Cambridge is suffering with at the moment:
