It's certainly much more "contemporary" than what she usually wears.

Can't say I love it either. But it's 500x better than the "hat" she wore when she received it!
She usually wears that sort of headpiece when she attends the Garden show.
(To keep her hair in place when out in the open)?
Exactly - Chelsea is renound for windy days so the Queen has worn these headpieces to maintain her hair and without the necessity of wearing a hat that could blow off. Of course Monday was relatively wind free day but I guess the Queen decided to go ahead and wear the headpiece. She wore one last year as well.

Well now I want that, and half the other stuff on that site, dammitHave you ordered from them? Overseas shipping costs reasonable?
My local tea purveyor had a Royal Wedding blend last year. The shopkeeper confessed she just made it up, but I bought it anyway. What else was I going to drink in this after all?![]()
Reading the story of Princess Estelle's Christening, they said no one from the British royal family was there. Why not? They couldn't spare one or two people to go to Sweden for one day? No Edward or Sophie? Or even Beatrice and/or Eugenie? I'd say Catherine, but she's not done a major diplomatic run all by her lonesome so not yet for her. I know it's the Queen's Jubilee, but are they really all that booked for time?
The question is if it's really about "being booked". Wasn't it Victoria's wedding that Harry and William didn't attend because they were at the Soccer World Cup in South Africa? That sort of thing makes me wonder if the Swedish and British Royals might not have the best of relationships...
Was anyone from the BRF even invited? The Scandanavian royal families tend to group together for events, so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.
But as for CP's wedding, I was always under the impression that William and Harry didn't go mainly because they didn't fulfill official duties like that. Now they're getting to a point where they'll be expected to do weddings and funerals and other official business, but then? Nope. William is also the President of The Football Association in England, so I'm thinking he went to South Africa in that capacity.

A bit off topic, but since this crowd loves tiaras and jewels, I wondered what everyone thought of the ring that Facebook multi-billionaire Mark Zuckerberg picked out for his bride.
I know he's not a flashy guy, but I'm surprised at how generic it is. I'm sure the quality's there, but it looks like something you could get at any run of the mill jewelry store at the mall.
It does; although he reportedly "designed" it.
I don't think they care about "ostentation" at all.
I'd be more curious as to why Charles and Camilla weren't there, since Princess Victoria and Prince Charles are both first in line to the throne. Prince William's counterpart is Princess Estelle, not Princess Victoria.
Just from the pictures of her that have been circulating, she doesn't seem like someone who's into bling. Also, she's a doctor, and a huge ring might not be convenient for her to wear at work. He may have given her other jewelry for all we know, or maybe they'd just spend money on other things.
According to this article the value depends on the quality of the stone, but the stone could go from anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000.
Personally, I'm not a fan of too blingy engagement rings and prefer a simple solitaire. So if anything that ring was too much for me (do I have to leave this thread now for admitting that?)

I don't like too much flash either, and if you have a good quality stone, it should be the "star" of the piece and not overwhelmed by to many competing stones and design details.
I just think Mrs Zuckerberg's ring looks like something out of a catalogue.
Obviously it has to be about her preferences and style and not minebut if it were me, I would have liked a really top quality ruby or other stone (even if not large) in a simple setting rather than that ring.
Yankee Anglophiles ALERT!!!
CNN has released it's Diamond Jubilee broadcasting info!!!
Personally, although I had NO problem getting up at 5am for the Royal Wedding coverage, I am quite happy that the Thames River Pageant kicks off a bit later in the day.
