arrrgggghhhhhhh. . . guess my day tomorrow will consist of returning bags of dog food. . .

    From http://www.diamondpet.com/information/

To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production codes on their bags. If the production code has a number “2” or a “3” in the 9th position AND an “X” in the 10th or 11th position, the product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled brands listed above are December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013.

I don't think dogs do too well on a vegetarian diet.

I've heard of people cooking dog food for their dogs. I've been feeding my cat a homemade raw chicken diet and it's working out pretty well so far. I use chicken thighs packaged for human consumption, so if there's a recall, it would be pretty big news. Supposedly, cats get food poisoning much less often than humans because their stomachs are so acidic.

Mine eats Nature's Variety Prairie dry dog food. She used to eat Canidae, which is being voluntarily recalled, but I switched her cause she had some issues. Hmm.

What do people think of the Blue Buffalo brands for their pets?

I feed my dog Blue Buffalo and he seems to be doing very well on it. It is one of the better pet foods.

From what I understand, anyone who decides to feed a homemade diet to their dog or cat needs to supplement with vitamins and minerals. Check with your vet if you decide to go the homemade route.

Unfortunately almost all pet foods have had recalls over the past years, several years ago Nutro had a massive recall after dogs and cats started dying of kidney failure from contaminated gluten in the food.

I found a website www.truthaboutpetfood.com which has up to date information. Unfortunately not all pet food recalls get media attention outside of one press release

I feed Blue Buffalo Wilderness. My dog has been on the wilderness for a year and was on the chicken and rice for maybe 6 months before we switched to grain free. She does really well on it--very sensitive stomach, but we haven't had issues since she's been on the wilderness.

Blue Buffalo is supposed to be very good. I used Nutra for several years, my dog did very well on it. I give him a half cup of dry dog food with a little bit of cooked turkey mixed in 2 times a day. He gets no treats at all. I recently switched to Precise (I remembered the name). My dog (typical of Cavaliers) gets impacted anal glands. And we thought a holistic brand might firm up his stools a bit, to help with that. It seems to have helped, somewhat. We have to see when we go to the vet, this week.

Blue Buffalo had a few products which were involved with the recall back in '07, but they are fine now. Nutro was not part of that recall. Precise, was using Menu for their canned dog foods, but since they are gluten free, they did not have any problems.

Dogs are carnivores and will not thrive on a vegetarian diet!!!!!! Natural diets require a lot of supplements and carefull balance of proteins.

Just to verify, Nutro is not part of this recall either, right?

I feed my dog Kibbles and Bits Small Bits.
She has eaten it for years and has never had any problems yet, but, it just takes one bad shipment from a factory.
Oh heck, I don't know what to do.
My vet isn't any help, everytime I ask her what is best to feed my pup, she just shrugs, which ticks me off no end.
I use to feed her Halo for about a year and she did well on that too, but, you can't buy it around here anymore.
