Perhaps that was a hint as to what was to come with the coaching change.
well his family and supports are all in Toronto and if he is going to work more with Buttle I'm sure this will work out well.. Hopefully it will reduce the family's bills as well.. I know that parents often get criticized on these boards for being involved with their skater's lives but the reality is when you are the one paying the bills for the most part and hopefully your child's best interest at heart - you should be a part of the decision making team From all accounts Patrick's mother is a lovely woman

Karen Chan is lovely but... intense to say the least.

Interesting that this is the second time a coach has resigned from coaching Patrick.

    Maybe he became a Buddhist?

Karen Chan is a very smart woman who wants what's best for Patrick. She knows a lot about skating and tries to get every expert she can working with Patrick. She's big on the organizational side of Patrick's skating. Very big. She's running the show in the sense that she's scheduling Patrick in everything. She's usually observing his training sessions. Or at least this is what I'd seen in the past, I'm not training with him in Colorado or anything.

Skaters change coaches all the time. He and his family probably wanted more time together and he said he wants to spend more time at home in Toronto, splitting his time between there and CO. I'm another who would like to see him branch out to other choreographers and Jeff did a wonderful job on his gala program. He'll probably use Lori still though for at least one of his competitive programs. Good luck to him. I'm sure he'll be fine.

More skaters were going to Kristy Crall, so maybe Patrick wanted a coach who would be more singularly there for him?

I know very little about Kristy Johnson. Who has she coached?

Whatever Patrick does, he is going to need someone who is as good a technical specialist so he will be able to keep the axel and quad otherwise this whole thing will be a disaster..

As for Alissa going to Colorado Springs now... she can go to 10 different coaches and it won't fix whatever is inside her head..

Here's a good article in Globe and Mail. I think his ex-coach is a classy lady.

I'm surprised that no one remembers the biggest coaching change shock by a reigning World champ. Kwan left Frank Carroll after winning the 2001 World title and if my memory serves me correctly, it was much closer to the beginning of the season than the end of the previous season. Making it even more shocking was that it was during an OLYMPIC SEASON. I still question that one.

For what it's worth, it seems that Chan has indeed ended his association with Lori Nichol as well. That is, he has according to Tim Koleto on his twitter.

She's a control freak very much like Joubert's mother.
