    Kevin Reynolds: "Plan B" Worked

Because he managed to recover from all those mistakes Wouldn't it have been easier not to make the mistakes in the first place?

    http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/R...294/story.html

And by 2014 he's going to be right up there in component marks with the best skaters in the world. And "if they didn't downgrade that quad Salchow it would have been worth another six points?" Maybe if he'd done it better it wouldn't have been downgraded Comments like that are not being realistic in helping him identify what he needs to improve.

Good on Kevin. Great job, skate and come back. Better things to come his way soon.

He needs a coaching change. I'm sorry she may be a nice woman and her students seem incredibly loyal but it's time. He's made good improvements but he needs more a whole new fresh approach and a different perspective if he's ever gonna have a chance to be near the top.

3rd quad? More ambitious than Chan? Didn't he under rotate the first quad and double the second quad, therefore making it a one quad program?

Kevin seems like a nice guy, but I agree, he's not going any further without a coaching change. He is not the only senior man in the top ten in Canada who needs one either. These guys need to take a realistic look at what is out there - outside Canada - and then make the leap if they want a chance. Balde has made that leap and I expect he will be a force next year. Kevin, Jeremy, and Liam all need to step it up if they want to be in the mix for 2014.

Slightly OT, but it drives me nuts the way some reporters are so extreme. Chan is either a god or they totally undervalue what he does - take your pick.
A good rant is cathartic. Ranting is what keeps me sane. They always come from a different place. Take the prime minister, for example. Sometimes when I rant about him, I am angry; other times, I am just severely annoyed - it's an important distinction. - Rick Mercer

I saw him in the mall a couple of months back and it was all I could do to keep myself from going up to him and telling him he needed to change coaches

He has been told as well as the others but they will not listen. I guess it is awkward. Probably Ten is the closest one to leaving.

Does anyone else have a different definition of "Plan B" when you read the title of this thread? I just can't help thinking perhaps it should be in PI.

My opinion of Kevin is that he has some natural talent but believes that he is, right now, the best skater in the world and that clearly all the judges are wrong and are not recognizing how Totally Awesome he is.

Every interview I have every read supports this opinion. It's just one excuse after another and a lot of blaming the judges for daring to downgrade him or deducting points for an obvious mistake. How rude of them.

I think the plan C,D E and F should be for Kevin to put on some muscle weight, forget one of those quads, work on the triple axel, work on getting more power in his skating, and stop looking like a pixie on ice.

The fact is that Mcleod is the one saying these things, not Kevin. The articles clearly shows that Mcleod is doing the gloating while Kevin admits there are things to improve. I wished that Kevin sees that he won't get to the top under Mcleod. If she refuses to see the problems, she can't fix them.

Mcleod has consistently whined about UR calls and low PCS marks with her skaters.

Having Shae choreograph his programs is the only reason he has advanced at all. I also think he has at least listened to Shae's banter.

Ten is not as connected to Mcleod as the other students. He often uses Kraatz, Wing and Lowe for help. They help his skating skills, unfortunately it does not help his jumps. He needs a jump specialist.

Ten has been less hyped up by the Mcleod machine than a complete failure like Kathryn Kang who bombed every international assignment she ever had.

And that's why I am so hopeful that Elladj will be Canada's third man in London.

When I saw his new coaching team in Moncton I was overjoyed. I knew he was willing to do whatever is necessary to improve. And he was thisclose to the podium.

But this thread is about Kevin. Sorry I used it to praise my personal favourite

Sorry, I did not think of that when I took the thread title from the text of the story.
Since Kevin was concentrating on the competition and on skating while in France, I suspect he didn't get involved in anything to do with the *other* Plan B

She doesn't seem very nice from what very little info we get, to be honest.

What really bothers me is the total delusion you can sometimes see coming out from her or her students' mouths (like in the linked interview).

It's good to believe in yourself but it's also good to be self-aware.

The "it's the judges'/bad ice's/Mercury's casting bad field over the moon fault" attitude is not particularly constructive.

This may be a strange question, but is there anyway a coach can hold onto a student who wants to leave? Kevin seems relatively intelligent, I think his family is quite supportive, so why does he stay? Surely he must realize that a change is needed. It is all so frustrating because I think he is talented and hardworking. He should be getting better results. What a waste!

I'd like to see what Brian Orser could do with him. It's time for him to move on if he wants to get into the last flights.

To be honest she doesn't seem particularly 'nice' to me either from what I've seen but I don't want to judge, I don't know her. But I do not for the life of me get what all these students see in her that they spend their whole career under her guidance. Sandhu, Leung, now Reynolds and Ten, who I'm so relieved to hear might actually leave. IMO he is so talented, he needs to be seen & he has so much to offer. Under this coach he will remain virtually invisible and forgotten. I mean skaters change coaches all the timw I just don't get it? So if anyone has any insite into this 'hold' she has over them I'd be interested to know. Maybe she does have them so delusional they just think it's all the judges and everyone elses fault.

Oh and I agree about Brian Orser.
