Tonight we get the songs of Billy Joel, and who else should mentor the kids but P. Diddy? Every time I hear Diddy, I have to think, "wait, is that BJ...or is it Puffy?" Good job Nigel, those two fit like a glove!

The Top 5 will work one day at Disneyland...and make $50,000 for the day. And the winner will earn $200,000. That's close to my salary for a one-day gig.

Jermaine Jones: “American Idol knew of my previous arrest since my application”

Jermaine Jones was on CNN Showbiz Tonight to talk about his exit from American Idol. He said that in his application, he indicated that he was arrested before and the show did a background check on him. He actually obtained a lawyer to take care of some of those issues so he could be on the show.

Wow. So there you have it. American Idol knew about his previous arrest way before this week’s disqualification.

I guess that explains why Phillip said his mentoring session was weird.

I have a sentimental spot for Billy Joel, but I really don't like it when they have such narrow themes. Apparently, most of the contestants were not familiar with Billy Joel's songs, so this could be quite a train wreck tonight.

I saw the Showbiz Tonight piece with Jermaine. He did say he checked off the part of the application that asked about prior arrests, but also said he didn't tell them about the outstanding warrants and made it sound like he didn't want them to know. I'm not sure how much their background check would have turned up since some of what he is accused of doing is giving police officers fake names. But, i wouldn't be surprised if they knew about at least some of this stuff when they invited him to come back. Maybe they wanted the drama of firing him. If we don't have a week where everyone gets to stay (not counting the save and subsequent double elimination), then I'll be even more suspicious.

I just caught the Casey James performance on Ellen. He looked like he was having a great time. I haven't heard his album yet. Have any of you? The clips don't sound quite as bluesy as I was hoping for.
