The Hall of Fame induction ceremony used to always take place on the ice at Worlds so fans could enjoy it. But in 2008 it was held at a special indoor ceremony and same in 2009. Maybe this a new trend. Guess we will find out in a couple of weeks what the plan is (if any) in Nice.

I wondered who they were. I started to talk to them and realized they both spoke only Spanish. They wanted autographs and I saw them rudly rebuffe by skaters finishing second and third.

They did get it across that they wanted Michelle's autograph so when Michelle came out I asked her to sign the two autograph books. Even though Michelle was being overrun by press she readily agreed, to the joy of the girls.
A true class act from Michelle and she even stood for pictures

Some time after, I learned that the two young girls were the Grand Daughters of Smaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee.
    Thanks for sharing this, Morry.

Thanks for sharing Morry. I've watched skating since the early 60's (Wide World of Sports anyone?) and had other favorite ladies, but Michelle is and will always be my #1.

Gosh what a class act - both as a skater, a competitor, and a person!

Hardly a surprise, but a wonderful non-surprise. So happy to have been a fan of hers--and still be a fan of hers!

Ekaterina Gordeeva: born May 28, 1971; inducted along with Sergei Grinkov in 1995. Kristi Yamaguchi was a twentysomething inductee (1998), as was Katarina Witt (assuming that WHOF selections for 1995 were made before December 3 of that year).

    Michelle!!!!!!!!!!

    Congrats!

So well deserving of the honor because I could go on and on about how great you are as an athlete and skater and how much you have accomplished on ice but personally, I just love and admire you as a person.

Since Michelle will already be in Nice for the induction, she just as well go ahead and compete for another world title. She can use her unskated Olympic programs.

Assumed, since in recent years the induction has always been in held in the city where worlds is taking place. Wonder if anyone at the MKF or the organizers in Nice or USFSA can confirm?
