A famous figure skating coach Tatiana Tarasova made an unexpected visit to a closed court hearing in Moscow as a defendant's witness. Piano teacher Anatoly Ryabov is accused in 53 events of sexual molestation of two girls aged 12 and 13.
Using her recent popularity in TV talk and ice shows, Ms. Tarasova tried to influence the judge though failed to answer any questions about the case and how she can actually witness without even knowing a defendant. Her testament was dismissed as irrelevant and she would not appear before jury. Then in a presence of court officers, she aggressively threatened girls and their parents that she would do everything possible to ruin their careers.
The only reason for her testifying was the fact that her late husband, pianist Vladimir Krainev before his recent death, happened to support Mr. Ryabov as many other his colleagues did.
Obviously, Ms. Tarasova had no chances in court, neither she knew defendant personally nor details of the case. Her goal was to show off in front of media waiting behind the doors and use her celebrity status to punish innocent children who reported their abuser to police.
This ugly incident raises an issue of Ms. Tarasova’s own credibility. For more than two decades Ms. Tarasova and her late husband Krainev de facto have lived in separation for almost 20 years surrounding themselves closely with students: Mr. Krainev - in Hannover, Germany with pianists, mostly young boys and Ms. Tarasova – with celebrated champions Ilia Kulik, Alexey Yagudin and others, living together under one roof and motherly taking care of them.
